Look at her. A little girl from Gaza sits wrapped in a blanket while fire swallows the walls around her, and in the next frame she lies in a hospital bed with burns across her face, staring into the camera with eyes that ask the whole Ummah one question. Where were you? Where were the armies we pay for, the presidents who give speeches about brotherhood, the kings who host summits in golden halls, and the scholars who climb the minbar every Friday and speak about the rights of Muslims upon one another? A child of this Ummah burned, and nearly two billion Muslims watched it on their phones, pressed a heart, shared the post, and went back to their dinner.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us exactly what was supposed to stand between that girl and the fire:

“The Imam is a shield; fighting is done behind him and people are protected by him.”

Ibn Hajar al ʿAsqalānī said: “It means a covering, because he prevents the enemy from harming the Muslims and restrains them from harming one another.” So ask yourself honestly where that shield was when the bombs fell on her tent. This Ummah has fifty seven states, millions of soldiers, fighter jets rusting in hangars, oil that moves the world economy, and borders that are guarded with more passion than the blood of our children. The power exists in abundance, and what is missing is a single leadership that would turn that power toward the protection of the believers, which means that what is missing is the Khilafah. Without it we have become a body cut into pieces, where every piece guards its own little fence and calls that fence a nation while the child next door burns.

Allah does not let us hide behind excuses, because He addresses us directly in His Book:

“And what is the matter with you that you do not fight in the cause of Allah and for the oppressed among men, women and children who cry: Our Lord, take us out of this town whose people are oppressors, and appoint for us from Yourself a protector, and appoint for us from Yourself a helper?”

Read that ayah again and then look at her face. The children in that verse are begging for a walī and a nasīr, a guardian and a helper, and every child under the rubble of Gaza is making that same duʿā today. The rulers heard it and opened trade routes to the occupier, sealed the crossings, sent “humanitarian statements,” and kept their armies in the barracks polishing boots for parades. History will remember them, and so will Allah.

Then there are the scholars, and here the wound cuts deepest, because Allah took a covenant from those who carry knowledge:

وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَاقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَكْتُمُونَهُ فَنَبَذُوهُ وَرَاءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَاشْتَرَوْا بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا ۖ فَبِئْسَ مَا يَشْتَرُونَ

“And remember when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Book, that you must make it clear to the people and not conceal it. But they threw it behind their backs and sold it for a small price. How wretched is what they purchased!”

The Prophet ﷺ told them where the highest jihad of the tongue lies: “The best jihad is a word of justice in front of a tyrannical ruler.” So where is that word? We hear long lectures about the etiquette of sleeping, the sunnah of eating with the right hand, and the dangers of music, while the same tongues freeze the moment the topic touches the palace that pays their salary. They make duʿā for Gaza with tears in their eyes and then sit at the table of the very ruler who closed the gate on Gaza. They warn the youth against “fitnah” while the greatest fitnah of this age sits on thrones and signs agreements with the killers of our children. Imam al Ghazālī diagnosed this disease nine centuries ago when he wrote:

“The corruption of the subjects comes from the corruption of the kings, the corruption of the kings comes from the corruption of the scholars, and the corruption of the scholars comes from the love of wealth and status taking hold of them. Whoever is overpowered by the love of this world cannot even hold the lowly to account, so how could he hold kings and the great to account?”

So we ask you plainly, O scholars of this Ummah: where are you? You call yourselves the heirs of the Prophets, so show us the inheritance. Musa ﷺ stood before Firʿawn, Ibrahim ﷺ stood before Namrūd, Ahmad ibn Hanbal was flogged rather than bend, and Ibn Taymiyyah died in a prison cell rather than sell his words. Which of their footsteps are you walking in when you fill the minbar with silence? Every child who burns in Gaza while you guard your position will be a question on your scale on the Day when no king will stand beside you and no salary will save you. We are asking you for one thing, the thing Allah already made obligatory upon you: speak the truth to the rulers, tell them openly that protecting the Ummah is fard and that a leadership which refuses to be a shield carries a heavy account before Allah, and tell the Ummah openly that the cure for this humiliation is the Khilafah. This is a call to naṣīḥah and to clear speech, a call for you to stop hiding the knowledge Allah placed in your hearts, and it has nothing to do with armed rebellion.

Because in the end everything leads back to this point. Shaykh al Islām Ibn Taymiyyah said:

“It must be known that taking charge of the affairs of the people is one of the greatest obligations of the religion; indeed, neither the religion nor the world can stand except by it.”

As long as this Ummah remains scattered under borders drawn by colonial pens, children in Gaza will keep burning, scholars will keep whispering, and rulers will keep guarding their thrones while the believers bleed. The unity of the Ummah becomes a real shield only through the Khilafah, and on the day that shield returns, no little girl will ever again sit alone in the fire waiting for a brother who never comes.

Our duty is clear. Keep this cause alive in our homes, our gatherings and our masājid, explain the obligation of the Khilafah with its evidences to everyone who will listen, send this message to every scholar we know and ask him to his face where he stands, and never let that little girl’s eyes leave our memory until the shield of this Ummah is raised again.
