1- Introduction

Before reading this article, look at our website for article(s) regarding the upcoming caliphate.

For decades, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has been presented as an issue that can be resolved through international institutions, legal mechanisms, and humanitarian actions. The United Nations, international law, aid convoys like the Freedom Flotilla all are presented as possible paths to peace and justice. The harsh reality however, is that none of these mechanisms has provided an actual solution. This article explains why these structures systematically fail and how their hypocrisy harms rather than helps the Palestinian cause.

2- The UN: An Institution of Selective Justice

2.1- The Structural Paralysis of the Security Council

The United Nations is seen as the highest body of international justice, but in practice the organization functions as a political instrument of the most powerful states. The most blatant example of this is the American veto in the UN Security Council.

The numbers speak for themselves, Since 1972, the United States has used its veto more than 50 times to block resolutions that criticized Israel or would impose sanctions. Every attempt to hold Israel accountable for settlements, violence against civilians, or violations of international law is systematically blocked by a single country.

In December 2017, Egypt attempted to submit a resolution condemning the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Fourteen of the fifteen Security Council members voted in favor, only the U.S. voted against and blocked the resolution. This pattern repeats itself time and again.

2.2- Selective Intervention: Where Does the UN Act?

The hypocrisy of the UN becomes painfully clear when we look at where the organization does and doesn’t intervene:

Libya (2011): Within weeks of the conflict’s beginning, the UN Security Council approved Resolution 1973, establishing a no-fly zone and authorizing “all necessary measures” to protect civilians. NATO bombardments followed within days.

Iraq (1990-1991): After Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, the UN mobilized an international coalition with a mandate for military action within months. Economic sanctions were imposed immediately.

Kosovo (1999): Although without explicit UN mandate, NATO conducted a 78-day bombing campaign under the guise of humanitarian intervention, with quieter UN support behind the scenes.

Palestine (1948-present): More than 75 years of occupation, thousands of resolutions, documented human rights violations, and… not a single military intervention, no no-fly zone, no meaningful economic sanctions. On the contrary: Israel receives billions in military aid from the U.S. annually.

This selectivity reveals the truth: the UN does not function based on universal principles, but on geopolitical interests. A Palestinian does not have the same value as a Kuwaiti, Libyan, or Kosovar in the eyes of the international system. (Note that the bombardments of those states brought greater harm to the muslims. The only reason why the UN accepted them was because the leaders were against the idea of Capitalism/Imperialism)

2.3- The Illusion of UN Resolutions

The UN General Assembly has adopted hundreds of resolutions on Palestine. Resolution 194 (1948) on the right of return for Palestinian refugees, Resolution 242 (1967) on withdrawal from occupied territories, Resolution 476 (1980) condemning settlements: all ignored.

These resolutions are nothing more than paper without implementation mechanisms. They serve only as moral pronouncements that have no legal or practical consequence when ignored. For Palestinians, they are hollow words that create false hope while the occupation deepens.

2.4- The UN as Cover for Normalization

UN processes legitimize the status quo. “Peace negotiations” under UN ‘auspices’ have for decades given the illusion that a diplomatic process is underway, while Israel meanwhile confiscated thousands of hectares of land and settled hundreds of thousands of settlers in colonies.

The Oslo Accords (1993), supported by the UN, created an “interim period” that never ended and resulted in further fragmentation of Palestinian territory. UN involvement gave legitimacy to a process that ultimately weakened the Palestinian position.

3- International Law: Paper Tigers and Double Standards

3.1- The Illusion of Universal Justice

The international legal system presents itself as neutral and universal, a set of principles that apply equally to all states(!). The reality is that international law is only enforced against weaker states, while more powerful countries and their allies act with impunity.

3.2- Israel’s Violations: A Long List

Israel has violated more UN Security Council resolutions than any other country. Let’s examine some concrete examples:

Geneva Convention (Fourth Convention, 1949): Article 49 explicitly prohibits an occupying power from transferring “parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.” Israel’s settlement project, now with more than 700,000 settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, is a direct violation of this fundamental principle of international humanitarian law.

Resolution 446 (1979): The Security Council declared that Israel’s settlement policy “has no legal validity” and demanded cessation and dismantlement. Israel’s response? The number of settlers increased tenfold since this resolution.

Resolution 465 (1980): Called on all states not to provide Israel with any assistance to be used for settlements. The U.S. increased its military aid to Israel shortly thereafter.

International Court of Justice (2004): The highest judicial body of the UN ruled that Israel’s separation wall in the West Bank was illegal and must be dismantled. Israel completely ignored this and completed the construction.

Resolution 2334 (2016): The Security Council reaffirmed that settlements are a “flagrant violation” of international law. Israel announced the construction of thousands of new settlement units within weeks of this resolution.

3.3- The Hypocrisy: When Is International Law Enforced?

The selective enforcement of international law is perhaps the most disheartening aspect of the system. The selective enforcement of the laws is only when a state is:

1- Against Capitalism/Imperialism

2- Against America

3- Doesn’t support Israel

Yugoslavia (1993): The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia was established to prosecute war crimes. Dozens of Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian leaders were prosecuted and convicted.

Rwanda (1994): Within months, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda was established. More than 60 individuals were prosecuted for genocide and crimes against humanity.

Liberia (2003): President Charles Taylor was ultimately prosecuted and convicted by the Special Court for Sierra Leone for war crimes.

Russia (2022): After the invasion of Ukraine, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against President Vladimir Putin for war crimes within a year. Massive economic sanctions were imposed, SWIFT access was cut off, foreign assets frozen.

Israel (1948-present): Despite documented evidence of war crimes, excessive violence against civilians, illegal settlements, collective punishment, and more, not a single Israeli prime minister or general has ever stood before an international tribunal. No sanctions, no boycott, no consequences.

When the International Criminal Court announced in 2021 that it would open an investigation into possible war crimes in Palestine, the U.S. and Israel reacted with fury and threats against the Court itself. The U.S. imposed sanctions on the ICC’s chief prosecutor. This response exposes the truth.

3.4- The Failure of Accountability

The international legal system has failed to create any accountability for decades of violations:

Sabra and Shatila (1982): Massacre of thousands of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. Israeli Defense Minister Ariel Sharon was found “personally responsible” by an Israeli commission. He later became prime minister.

Operation Protective Edge (2014): UN investigations documented war crimes in Gaza. No prosecutions followed.

Great March of Return (2018-2019): UN commission of inquiry concluded that Israeli snipers deliberately shot at unarmed demonstrators, including children, journalists, and disabled persons. No consequences.

Sheikh Jarrah Evictions (2021): Forced displacement of Palestinian families in violation of international law. The evictions proceeded.

3.5- The Circle of Impunity

This cycle has become predictable:

  1. Israel violates international law
  2. UN bodies document violations
  3. Resolutions are adopted condemning violations
  4. U.S. blocks any consequences in the Security Council
  5. Israel completely ignores and continues with the same practices
  6. International community moves on to business as usual
  7. Repeat

For Palestinians, international law is a cruel joke, a system set up by the jews, that recognizes their rights on paper but refuses to enforce them in practice. It creates the illusion of justice while actually legitimizing power inequality.

4- The Freedom Flotilla: Symbolism Versus Change

4.1- The Noble Intention

The Freedom Flotilla movement (which began in 2010 and happened again a week ago) represents a brave attempt by international activists to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza by delivering humanitarian aid directly. These initiatives deserve respect for their courage and moral steadfastness.

4.2- The Hard Reality: Limited Impact

However, if we are honest about the impact, we must acknowledge that these convoys have not brought any structural change:

1- A ship with aid can deliver several dozen to hundreds of tons. Gaza needs tens of thousands of tons of essential goods monthly. The humanitarian gap is too large to be bridged by sporadic ships.

2- The Israeli maritime and land blockade has not eased after more than a decade of Flotilla attempts, on the contrary, in many ways the blockade has been tightened.

4.3- Symbolic Value Versus Practical Solution

The Flotillas have important symbolic value, they keep the fate of Gaza in public attention and show solidarity which is extremely important. But symbolism doesn’t feed starving families, rebuild destroyed homes, or treat sick children who need medicine.

The problem is more fundamental: a system that sets up a blockade imposed by a military superpower cannot be lifted by civilian ships. It requires political, economic and military pressure on Israel itself,  pressure that the international community refuses to exert.

4.4- The Limitation of Humanitarian Approaches

The Flotilla shows a broader problem with purely humanitarian approaches to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict: they treat symptoms rather than causes. Delivering aid is noble, but it doesn’t challenge the structural causes of suffering: the occupation, the blockade, the settlements.

Worse still, exclusive focus on humanitarian aid can normalize the occupation. It shifts the discussion from rights to charity, from justice to benevolence.

5- The Failure of Other Alternative Strategies

5.1- Bilateral Negotiations: An Asymmetric Joke

The Oslo illusion (1993-present): The Oslo Accords were presented as a breakthrough, but created an asymmetric “negotiation” where:

  • Israel maintained military control over all occupied territories
  • Settlements grew unhindered (from 110,000 settlers in 1993 to 700,000+ now)
  • The Palestinian Authority effectively became Israel’s security contractor
  • The concept of “occupation” was replaced by vague “territorial disputes”

You cannot “negotiate” with your occupier without third-party pressure. It’s like asking a prisoner to negotiate with his jailer about the terms of his imprisonment, without an external arbitrator. The power imbalance guarantees that the stronger party simply buys time to create facts on the ground.

5.2- BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions): Promising but Insufficient

The BDS movement (which is the bare-minimum that we can do, and those who don’t do it, are worse than animals), inspired by the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa, has achieved successes:

  • Raising awareness about Israeli practices
  • Getting some companies to withdraw from settlements
  • Stimulating cultural and academic debates

But the limitations are significant:

  • No major economic impact on Israel so far (Israel’s economy continues to grow steadily)
  • Without state support (which isn’t coming) BDS remains a grassroots movement with limited leverage

5.3- Armed Resistance: Counterproductive and Used as Justification

Armed Palestinian resistance (May Allah Accept them) has historically failed to achieve liberation and is consistently used to:

  • Justify Israeli military operations
  • Reduce international sympathy for Palestinians
  • Shift focus from occupation to “Israeli security”
  • Legitimize collective punishment of Palestinians

This is not a moral judgment about resistance to occupation (which is legitimate under international law), but a sober assessment of effectiveness. Every form of Palestinian armed resistance is converted by Israel’s military superiority and Western media framing into political defeats for Palestinians.

5.4- International Solidarity: Necessary but Insufficient

Solidarity movements, activists, NGOs, progressive church communities play a crucial role in keeping the Palestinian cause alive. But they encounter structural barriers:

  • Limited financial resources compared to pro-Israel lobby groups
  • No direct influence on government policy in Western power centers
  • Can change awareness but not military or economic realities

6- Conclusion: The Uncomfortable Truth

The painful reality is that none of the proposed “solutions” like the UN intervention, international law, humanitarian convoys, negotiations, even grassroots movements have so far been effective in ending the Palestinian occupation or realizing Palestinian rights.

This failure is not accidental at all. It is structurally embedded in an international system that:

  • Is based on power politics, not universal principles
  • Prioritizes Western geopolitical interests over human rights
  • Protects Israel due to strategic alliances with the U.S.
  • Issues paper condemnations but refuses enforcement
  • Uses humanitarian aid as a substitute for justice

For Palestinians, it is their daily reality. Generations have grown up with the promise that the UN would intervene, that international law would prevail, that the international community would not look away forever. That promise has been broken time and again.

6.1- Where Does This Leave Us?

This article leaves us with an uncomfortable question: If all conventional paths have failed, what remains?

The truth is that lasting change can only come through fundamental shifts in political will, especially in Western capitals that support Israel. As long as the U.S. provides Israel with unconditional support (financial, military, diplomatic), as long as European countries treat Israel as a normal democracy despite the occupation, as long as the muslim leaders don’t take their weapons, all other efforts will hit concrete walls of impunity.

This doesn’t mean that efforts are meaningless, no, every initiative that raises awareness, documents the occupation, shows solidarity, or builds pressure contributes to the slow work of changing that political will. But we must acknowledge the limitations and avoid creating false hope with solutions that don’t challenge the power structures.

The Palestinian issue is ultimately not a humanitarian problem that can be solved with aid convoys, not a legal problem that can be solved with more resolutions, and not a diplomatic dispute that can be solved with more rounds of negotiations. It is a matter of colonialism, occupation, and fundamental rights, and history teaches us that such systems only end when the costs of maintaining them become higher than the benefits.

Until that fundamental shift in power and will takes place, international mechanisms will remain what they have always been: instruments that soothe the conscience of the powerful without changing the reality of the powerless.

After examining why all conventional international mechanisms have failed Palestine, the UN, international law, humanitarian efforts, and bilateral negotiations, we must ask a fundamental question: What alternative remains? This next part shows that the ultimate solution lies not in appealing to a hypocritical international system, but in Islamic unity under just governance based on Shariah principles: KHILAFAH

7- The Ultimate Solution: Islamic Unity Under Just Khilafah

1- The Historical Precedent: When Islamic Unity Protected Palestine

1.1- The Ottoman Caliphate (1517-1917)

For four centuries, Palestine remained under Islamic governance through the Ottoman Caliphate. During this period:

Jews, Christians, and Muslims lived together in relative peace. Jewish communities in Jerusalem, Hebron, Safed, and Tiberias existed without the ethnic cleansing and displacement that characterized the 20th century.

Palestine remained intact as part of a larger Muslim polity. There was no question of “partition” or ethnic division of the land.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Dome of the Rock, and Christian holy sites were maintained and protected. The Islamic waqf system ensured religious endowments supported these institutions.

It was only after the collapse of the Ottoman Caliphate in 1924 and the subsequent fragmentation of Muslim lands that the Balfour Declaration (1917) could be implemented, leading to the Nakba (1948) and the ongoing occupation.

1.2- The Lesson of Unity

This historical reality shows a crucial point: When Muslims were politically united under a single authority, Palestine was protected. When that unity collapsed and Muslim lands were divided into weak, competing nation-states, Palestine became vulnerable to colonization.

The Sykes-Picot Agreement (1916) deliberately fragmented the Muslim world into artificial nation-states with borders drawn by colonial powers. This fragmentation was strategic. A divided Muslim world could not resist Western domination or protect Muslim territories.

2- Political Arguments: Why Islamic Unity Is the Ultimate Solution

2.1- Overcoming the Nation-State Trap

The current system of Muslim nation-states has proven catastrophically ineffective for Palestine:

Egypt: Signed the Camp David Accords (1978), normalizing relations with Israel while Gaza remains under blockade at Egypt’s border. Despite sharing a border with Gaza and despite being the most populous Arab country, Egypt enforces Israel’s siege.

Jordan: Signed a peace treaty with Israel (1994), despite its majority Palestinian population. The Jordanian military coordinates with Israeli security services.

Saudi Arabia & Gulf States: Increasingly normalizing relations with Israel through the Abraham Accords framework, prioritizing economic ties with the West over Palestinian rights.

Syria, Iraq, Lebanon: Weakened by internal conflicts, foreign interventions, and sectarian divisions, rendering them incapable of providing meaningful support.

Each nation-state prioritizes its own sovereignty, regime survival, and relationship with Western powers over collective Muslim interests. This is the inevitable result of a system based on nationalism rather than Islamic brotherhood.

The Islamic Alternative is a unified Islamic Caliphate would create a political entity that:

  • Cannot be individually pressured by Western powers to abandon Palestine
  • Pools collective resources for Palestinian support
  • Eliminates artificial borders that divide Muslim populations
  • Creates a unified foreign policy that cannot be played against itself
  • Represents 1.8+ billion Muslims as a single negotiating bloc

2.2- Eliminating Puppet Regimes

Many current Muslim-majority states are governed by autocratic regimes that maintain power through:

  • Western military and financial support
  • Suppression of domestic Islamic movements
  • Prioritization of regime survival over Islamic principles or Palestinian rights

These regimes are structurally incapable of supporting Palestine because their survival depends on appeasing Western powers that support Israel.

The Islamic Alternative is a Governance based on authentic Islamic principles requires:

  • Shura (consultation): Rulers accountable to the community through genuine consultative processes
  • Bay’ah (allegiance): Rulers derive legitimacy from the consent of the governed, not foreign backing
  • Justice as a core principle: Islamic governance is fundamentally built on establishing justice (adl), making it incompatible with accepting occupation and oppression
  • Accountability: Rulers who violate Islamic principles of justice can be legitimately removed

A leadership genuinely accountable to Muslim populations (rather than to Western capitals) would be structurally compelled to support Palestine because the Muslim masses demand it.

2.3- Strategic Depth and Geographic Unity

Current fragmentation means Palestinians face Israel alone, backed by the world’s sole superpower. Individual Muslim nations cannot provide meaningful counter-pressure.

The Islamic Alternative provides:

  • Geographic continuity: From Morocco to Indonesia, Muslim-majority lands form a largely contiguous landmass. Unity would eliminate the isolation of Palestine.
  • Strategic depth: A unified polity cannot be defeated by blockading one port or bombing one city. It has continental strategic depth.
  • Population mass: 1.8+ billion Muslims represent nearly a quarter of humanity. This population, if politically unified, would be impossible to ignore or marginalize.
  • Resource control: Muslim-majority lands contain vast oil and gas reserves, strategic waterways (Suez Canal, Strait of Hormuz), and critical geographic positions.

2.4- Ideological Coherence

The current international system operates on principles that are fundamentally antithetical to justice for Palestine:

  • National sovereignty (which protects Israel’s “right” to define its own policies)
  • Non-interference (which prevents intervention in Israel’s “internal affairs”)
  • Balance of power (which favors the stronger party)

Islamic governance operates on different principles:

  • Ummah over nation: Tribal, ethnic, and national divisions are transcended by Islamic brotherhood: “The believers are but brothers”
  • Obligation to support the oppressed: “And what is wrong with you that you fight not in the cause of Allah, and for the oppressed among men, women, and children”
  • Rejection of oppression: Islamic law fundamentally rejects oppression (dhulm) and requires Muslims to stand against it
  • Justice as a religious obligation: Supporting Palestine becomes not merely a political choice but a religious duty

Addressing Objections and Misconceptions

1- “But look at Saudi Arabia, Iran, ISIS: Islamic governance has failed!”

This objection makes the mistake to combine tyrannical regimes and groups set up by jews with authentic Islamic governance:

Saudi Arabia & Gulf monarchies:

  • Hereditary dictatorships, not Shura-based governance
  • Suppress Islamic scholars who criticize their policies
  • Collaborate with Western powers against Muslim interests
  • Implement selective aspects of Shariah while violating its core principles of justice and consultation

Iran:

  • Particular Shia
  • Authoritarian clerical control not equivalent to consultative governance
  • Nationalism and sectarianism contradict Islamic unity principles

ISIS and such organization:

  • Terrorist organizations that violate fundamental Islamic principles (protection of civilians, prohibition of terrorism, rules of warfare)
  • Created and exploited by external powers (Jews and west) to destabilize Muslim regions
  • Created to represent Islam as “Evil”, Used deliberately to discredit authentic Islamic governance

Authentic Islamic governance means:

  • Rule of law where rulers are subject to Shariah, not above it
  • Consultation (Shura) in decision-making
  • Protection of rights of all citizens, including non-Muslims (dhimmi rights in classical Islamic law provided protections unheard of in medieval Europe)
  • Accountability of rulers to the community
  • Justice as the foundational principle
  • Prohibition of oppression and tyranny

Historical examples like the Rashidun Caliphate and aspects of early Ottoman governance show these principles in practice.

2- “This is unrealistic, Muslim countries will never unite”

We wrote a 70 page book about this. Go and check it out via this link:

3- “Non-Muslims would be oppressed under Shariah”

This reflects profound misunderstanding of classical Islamic governance:

Historical Record under Islamic rule:

  • Jewish communities in Muslim Spain (Al-Andalus) experienced a “Golden Age” of Jewish philosophy, science, and culture
  • Christian communities thrived in the Ottoman Empire for centuries
  • Dhimmi (protected persons) status provided religious minorities legal protection and autonomy

Shariah Protections for Non-Muslims:

  • Freedom of worship and religious practice
  • Protection of houses of worship (churches, synagogues)
  • Autonomy in personal and religious law
  • Right to own property and engage in commerce
  • Exemption from certain Islamic obligations

Contrast with Modern Reality is that Palestinian Christians are suffering under Israeli occupation alongside Muslims. They face the same home demolitions, land confiscation, and violence. Their churches are not safe under the current system.

The Question is: Would Palestinian Christians and Jews be worse off under just Islamic governance than under the current occupation? History and Islamic law suggest not.

8- The Path Forward: From Theory to Reality

1- Grassroots Level

Individual Muslims:

  • Educate themselves about authentic Islamic governance principles
  • debunk false ideologies like Capitalism, Communism, Socialism, Feminism etc.
  • Debunk false solutions and bring Shar’i, logical, political, economical (…) proof for the caliphate and that she is the ONLY solution for Palestine
  • Support organizations working toward Muslim unity (Like Hizb-Ut-Tahrir)
  • Build connections with Muslims across national boundaries
  • Resist nationalist divisions in favor of Islamic brotherhood

Islamic Organizations/schools:

  • Focus on unity rather than sectarian or nationalist divisions
  • Emphasize shared Islamic principles
  • Build transnational networks of scholars
  • Learn the youth about the Caliphate, why it is important etc.
  • Bring up the Caliphate in every discussion, in every conversation.
  • Teach Islamic history emphasizing periods of unity and justice
  • Analyze current geopolitical situation through Islamic framework
  • Train future leaders in both Islamic principles and modern governance

2- Institutional Level

Economic Integration:

  • Expand trade agreements between Muslim countries
  • Develop Islamic banking and finance infrastructure
  • Create joint ventures and coordinated industrial policies
  • Build physical infrastructure connecting Muslim regions

Political Coordination:

  • Develop collective foreign policy on key issues
  • Coordinate in international forums
  • Build mutual defense arrangements

Cultural Renewal:

  • Revive Islamic intellectual tradition
  • Develop contemporary Islamic political philosophy
  • Create media that reflects Islamic values and unity
  • Foster shared Islamic identity transcending ethnicity and nationality

3- The Palestinian Context

For Palestine specifically, Islamic unity would mean:

Immediate Support:

  • End of blockade on Gaza from Egypt
  • Open borders with Jordan
  • Material support flowing freely from Muslim countries
  • No Muslim country cooperating with Israeli security
  • Military action against Israel

Political Leverage:

  • Unified Muslim bloc supporting the state
  • Economic pressure on Israel and its supporters
  • Alternative to dependence on hypocritical Western “peace processes”

Long-term Solution:

  • Palestine reintegrated into larger Islamic polity, as it was historically
  • Religious sites protected under Islamic governance
  • No need for ethnic partition or “two-state solution”
  • Christian and Jewish minorities protected under Islamic dhimmi framework
  • Jerusalem accessible to all Abrahamic faiths

9- Conclusion: The Only Viable Path

After examining the failure of the UN, international law, humanitarian efforts, and all conventional approaches, one conclusion becomes clear: The Palestinian cause cannot be resolved within the current international system because that system is structurally designed to protect power, not deliver justice.

The ultimate solution requires a fundamental transformation: the reunification of Muslims under authentic Islamic governance based on Shariah principles. This is not extremism or terrorism, it is a return to the system under which Muslims lived for over a millennium and under which Palestine was protected for centuries.

Islamic unity creates a bloc too large, too populous, and too resource-rich to be ignored or coerced. It eliminates the vulnerability of individual Muslim nation-states to Western pressure.

A unified Muslim economy would possess the resources, markets, and leverage to achieve self-sufficiency and exercise meaningful pressure on behalf of Palestine.

Islamic governance makes supporting the oppressed not merely a policy choice but a religious obligation, creating structural support for Palestine that transcends political calculation.

The question is not whether Islamic unity is possible, but whether Muslims will overcome their current divisions to reclaim their historical unity and, with it, the ability to protect Palestine and restore justice. Until that unity is achieved, Palestinians will remain at the mercy of a hypocritical international system that has failed them for 75 years and will continue to fail them.

The choice is clear: continue appealing to a system designed to fail, or build an alternative rooted in Islamic principles of justice, unity, and authentic governance. For Palestine, there is no other path to true liberation.
