From Jakarta to Istanbul, from Cairo to Karachi, the lanterns are hanging. Streets glow with decorations. Families gather for iftar. Children run between the tables. Ramadan has arrived, and the Muslim world celebrates.
But in Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa sits in the shadow of occupation.
While we light candles and string up crescents, they storm the masjid with boots and batons. While we break our fast with dates and water, they deny Palestinians the right to pray in their own sanctuary. While we fill the nights with Taraweeh and Quran, they fill Al-Aqsa with tear gas and stun grenades.
The contrast is unbearable. We decorate our streets. They militarize the courtyards of our third holiest site. We celebrate the blessed month. They beat the people who came to worship in it.
Allah says:
Who does more wrong than those who prevent Allah’s Name from being mentioned in His places of worship and strive to destroy them? (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:114)
The question is not rhetorical. The answer is clear. And yet the Ummah hangs lanterns while Al-Aqsa bleeds.
This is what happens when we have celebrations without liberation. This is what happens when we have Ramadan in our homes but no Khilafah to protect our masajid.
The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said:
“Verily, the leader is only a shield behind whom they fight, and he protects them. If he commands the fear of Allah Almighty and justice, he will have a reward. If he commands something else, it will be held against him.” (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1841)
We have no shield. So the lanterns shine everywhere except where they are needed most. And Ramadan comes and goes, year after year, while Al-Aqsa remains in darkness.
The solution is not complicated. It is the re-establishment of the Khilafah. And that work begins with each of us. Study it. Speak about it. Join those who are working for it. This is not someone else’s responsibility. It is yours.
