Introduction: The Crisis of Modern Civilization

Humanity stands at the precipice of absolute collapse. The so-called “enlightened” modern ideologies, capitalism, socialism, democracy, and liberalism, have systematically failed, creating unprecedented levels of inequality, moral decay, environmental destruction, and spiritual emptiness. These man-made systems, arrogantly rejecting Divine guidance, have proven themselves to be nothing more than instruments of oppression, exploitation, and dehumanization.

Islam is a complete, comprehensive system of life that addresses every aspect of human existence. Shariah is the Divine law that Allah has prescribed for humanity’s success in this world and salvation in the Hereafter. Allah Almighty declares in the Quran:

ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَـٰكَ عَلَىٰ شَرِيعَةٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ فَٱتَّبِعْهَا وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَآءَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ١٨

“Then We put you on a ordained way (Shariah) concerning the matter; so follow it, and do not follow the desires of those who do not know.”

I. ECONOMIC DOMAIN: JUSTICE, BALANCE, AND HUMAN DIGNITY

Modern capitalism has created a world where:

• 8 people own as much wealth as 3.5 billion people
• A person dies of hunger every 4 seconds while billionaires make $1 million in the same time
• Global debt exceeds $300 trillion, enslaving entire nations
• Homelessness exists alongside empty mansions

This is capitalism working exactly as designed: a system of systematic theft, exploitation, and economic violence.

A. The Prohibition of Riba (Usury): Destroying the Foundation of Economic Oppression

Interest-based lending is the primary weapon of economic warfare used by the wealthy to enslave the poor. The rich lend money and multiply their wealth without labor, while the poor drown in debt slavery.

Islamic Position on Riba:

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَذَرُوا۟ مَا بَقِىَ مِنَ ٱلرِّبَوٰٓا۟ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ ٢٧٨

“O you who believe! Fear Allah and give up what remains of riba if you are believers. But if you do not do it, then take notice of WAR from Allah and His Messenger…”

Read that again: WAR FROM ALLAH. This is a declaration of war against the interest-based system that enslaves humanity.

يَمْحَقُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلرِّبَوٰا۟ وَيُرْبِى ٱلصَّدَقَـٰتِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ أَثِيمٍ ٢٧٦

“Allah has made interest fruitless and charity fruitful. And Allah does not like any ungrateful evildoer.”

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) cursed those involved in riba with devastating clarity:

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم آكِلَ الرِّبَا وَمُوكِلَهُ وَكَاتِبَهُ وَشَاهِدَيْهِ وَقَالَ هُمْ سَوَاءٌ ‏.

Jabir said that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) cursed the accepter of interest and its payer, and one who records it, and the two witnesses, and he said: “They are all equal”

 Abdullah ibn Hanzalah (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: “Knowingly consuming a dirham of riba is worse for a man than committing adultery thirty-six times.”.

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: “Even if riba is much, it will end up being a small amount.”

We can bring hundreds of Ayah and hadith regarding riba, but we don’t want to make the already long text longer.

During the Caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), the Bayt al-Mal (public treasury) distributed wealth through zakat and interest-free loans. Trade was conducted through profit-sharing partnerships (Mudarabah, Musharakah), real economic cooperation, not parasitic exploitation.

When we go back to capitalism, the IMF and World Bank have enslaved Africa, Asia, and Latin America through interest-bearing loans. Countries pay more in interest than they receive in aid. This is modern colonialism, economic slavery disguised as “development assistance.”

Meanwhile, Islamic finance has grown to over $3 trillion globally, growing at 10-12% annually, proving that interest-free economics is not only morally superior but economically viable.

B. Zakat and Sadaqah: Mandatory Wealth Redistribution

Zakat is not charity at all. Zakat is a divine right of the poor in the wealth of the rich. It is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, making it absolutely obligatory.

Allah said:

خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ صَدَقَةًۭ تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِم بِهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ إِنَّ صَلَوٰتَكَ سَكَنٌۭ لَّهُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ ١٠٣

Take from their wealth ˹O Prophet˺ charity to purify and bless them, and pray for them, surely your prayer is a source of comfort for them. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

وَفِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّۭ لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ ١٩

And in their wealth there was a rightful share ˹fulfilled˺ for the beggar and the poor.

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) ordered (a person) to collect Zakat, and that person returned and told him that Ibn Jamil, Khalid bin Al-Walid, and Abbas bin ‘Abdul Muttalib had refused to give Zakat.” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “What made Ibn Jamll refuse to give Zakat though he was a poor man, and was made wealthy by Allah and His Apostle ? But you are unfair in asking Zakat from Khalid as he is keeping his armor for Allah’s Cause (for Jihad). As for Abbas bin ‘Abdul Muttalib, he is the uncle of Allah’s Apostle (p.b.u.h) and Zakat is compulsory on him and he should pay it double.”

When the Prophet (peace be upon him) sent Muadh to Yemen, he instructed:

“YOU are going to people of a (Divine) Book. First of all invite them to worship Allah (alone) and when they come to know Allah, inform them that Allah has enjoined on them, five prayers in every day and night; and if they start offering these prayers, inform them that Allah has enjoined on them, the Zakat. And it is to be taken from the rich amongst them and given to the poor amongst them; and if they obey you in that, take Zakat from them and avoid (don’t take) the best property of the people as Zakat.”

Under Umar ibn al-Khattab’s Caliphate, the zakat system was so effective that there were no poor people left to receive zakat. The state treasury had surplus wealth because poverty had been virtually eliminated.

During the reign of Umar ibn Abdul Aziz (717-720 CE), the same phenomenon occurred across the Islamic world, no one could be found who needed zakat.

Compare this to modern capitalist societies where billionaires hoard wealth while millions starve.

Allah said:

۞ إِنَّمَا ٱلصَّدَقَـٰتُ لِلْفُقَرَآءِ وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ وَٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَ عَلَيْهَا وَٱلْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَفِى ٱلرِّقَابِ وَٱلْغَـٰرِمِينَ وَفِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱبْنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۖ فَرِيضَةًۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌۭ ٦٠

Alms-tax is only for the poor and the needy, for those employed to administer it, for those whose hearts are attracted ˹to the faith˺, for ˹freeing˺ slaves, for those in debt, for Allah’s cause, and for ˹needy˺ travellers. ˹This is˺ an obligation from Allah. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

This system guarantees:

• Regular income for the poor
• Debt relief for the indebted
• Housing for the homeless
• Continuous wealth circulation in society

C. Prohibition of Israf (Waste): Sustainable Economics

Modern capitalism thrives on consumption madness, planned obsolescence, fast fashion, throwaway culture. This is environmental and economic suicide.

Quran’s Commands:

۞ يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ خُذُوا۟ زِينَتَكُمْ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍۢ وَكُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ وَلَا تُسْرِفُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ ٣١

“O Children of Adam! Dress properly whenever you are at worship. Eat and drink, but do not waste. Surely He does not like the wasteful.”

إِنَّ ٱلْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوٓا۟ إِخْوَٰنَ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ۖ وَكَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ لِرَبِّهِۦ كَفُورًۭا ٢٧

“Surely the wasteful are ˹like˺ brothers to the devils. And the Devil is ever ungrateful to his Lord.”

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said:

“The believer eats in one stomach while the disbeliever eats in seven.”

Passed by Sa’d as he was performing ablution, and he asked: “What is this extravagance?” Sa’d asked in return: “Can there be any extravagance in ablution?” The Prophet replied: “Yes, even if you are on the bank of a flowing river.”

Modern Crisis:

Today, 30% of all food produced is thrown away while 800 million people suffer from hunger. The fast fashion industry produces 92 million tons of textile waste annually. Plastic pollution is destroying our oceans and ecosystems.

Islam’s prohibition of waste and emphasis on moderation would solve both ecological destruction and resource inequality.

D. Property Rights with Social Responsibility

Islam recognizes private property but rejects absolute ownership. The true Owner is Allah; humans are merely trustees.

Quranic Framework:

وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌ ١٨٩

To Allah ˹alone˺ belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is Most Capable of everything.

وَٱللَّهُ فَضَّلَ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍۢ فِى ٱلرِّزْقِ ۚ فَمَا ٱلَّذِينَ فُضِّلُوا۟ بِرَآدِّى رِزْقِهِمْ عَلَىٰ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَهُمْ فِيهِ سَوَآءٌ ۚ أَفَبِنِعْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَ ٧١

And Allah has favoured some of you over others in provision. But those who have been much favoured would not share their wealth with those ˹bondspeople˺ in their possession, making them their equals. Do they then deny Allah’s favours?

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said:

“Whoever has extra land should give it to his brother or leave it.”

“He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while his neighbor goes hungry.”

The Companions of the Prophet demonstrated unprecedented generosity:

• Abu Bakr donated his entire wealth
• Umar donated half his wealth
• Uthman purchased wells and made water free for all
• The Ansar shared their homes and properties with the Muhajirun

This is true social solidarity, not enforced by a totalitarian state (like socialism) but motivated by faith and accountability to Allah.

II. SOCIAL DOMAIN: FAMILY, COMMUNITY, AND MORAL STABILITY

Modern Western society is collapsing socially:

• 40% of children in the US are born out of wedlock
  
• Marriage rates have dropped 40-60% in 50 years
  
• Divorce rates hover around 40-50%
  
• Epidemic levels of depression, anxiety, suicide
  • The CDC reported that in 2023, over 49,000 people died by suicide in the U.S., averaging one death every 11 minutes.
  • Additionally, approximately 12.8 million adults seriously thought about suicide in 2023.
    
• Loneliness has become a public health crisis
  • In 2023, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy declared loneliness a public health epidemic, noting that about one in two adults in America reported experiencing loneliness.

This is what happens when you abandon Divine guidance and follow your desires.

A. The Sanctity and Protection of the Family Institution

The family is the foundation of society. Destroy the family, and you destroy civilization. Islam protects the family with uncompromising clarity.

Allah said:

وَمِنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًۭا لِّتَسْكُنُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةًۭ وَرَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ ٢١

And one of His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves so that you may find comfort in them. And He has placed between you compassion and mercy. Surely in this are signs for people who reflect.

أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ لَيْلَةَ ٱلصِّيَامِ ٱلرَّفَثُ إِلَىٰ نِسَآئِكُمْ ۚ هُنَّ لِبَاسٌۭ لَّكُمْ وَأَنتُمْ لِبَاسٌۭ لَّهُنَّ ۗ عَلِمَ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَخْتَانُونَ أَنفُسَكُمْ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَعَفَا عَنكُمْ ۖ فَٱلْـَٔـٰنَ بَـٰشِرُوهُنَّ وَٱبْتَغُوا۟ مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ۚ وَكُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ ٱلْخَيْطُ ٱلْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ ٱلْخَيْطِ ٱلْأَسْوَدِ مِنَ ٱلْفَجْرِ ۖ ثُمَّ أَتِمُّوا۟ ٱلصِّيَامَ إِلَى ٱلَّيْلِ ۚ وَلَا تُبَـٰشِرُوهُنَّ وَأَنتُمْ عَـٰكِفُونَ فِى ٱلْمَسَـٰجِدِ ۗ تِلْكَ حُدُودُ ٱللَّهِ فَلَا تَقْرَبُوهَا ۗ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ ١٨٧

It has been made permissible for you to be intimate with your wives during the nights preceding the fast. Your spouses are a garment (a metaphor for comfort, chastity, and protection.) for you as you are for them. Allah knows that you were deceiving yourselves. So He has accepted your repentance and pardoned you. So now you may be intimate with them and seek what Allah has prescribed for you…

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ أَن تَرِثُوا۟ ٱلنِّسَآءَ كَرْهًۭا ۖ وَلَا تَعْضُلُوهُنَّ لِتَذْهَبُوا۟ بِبَعْضِ مَآ ءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّ إِلَّآ أَن يَأْتِينَ بِفَـٰحِشَةٍۢ مُّبَيِّنَةٍۢ ۚ وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۚ فَإِن كَرِهْتُمُوهُنَّ فَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تَكْرَهُوا۟ شَيْـًۭٔا وَيَجْعَلَ ٱللَّهُ فِيهِ خَيْرًۭا كَثِيرًۭا ١٩

O believers! It is not permissible for you to inherit women against their will or mistreat them to make them return some of the dowry ˹as a ransom for divorce˺, unless they are found guilty of adultery.2 Treat them fairly. If you happen to dislike them, you may hate something which Allah turns into a great blessing.

Our beloved prophet said:

“The best of you are those who are best to their families, and I am the best of you to my family.”

“Paradise lies at the feet of mothers.”

The Prohibition of Zina (Fornication):

وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا۟ ٱلزِّنَىٰٓ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَـٰحِشَةًۭ وَسَآءَ سَبِيلًۭا ٣٢

Do not go near adultery. It is truly a shameful deed and an evil way.

This prohibition prevents:

• Destruction of family structures
• Confusion of lineage
• Spread of sexually transmitted diseases
• Exploitation of women and children
• Social chaos

Western Family Collapse:

In the modern West:

• Children grow up without fathers
• Women are objectified and sexualized
• Pornography is a $15 billion industry
• Dating apps reduce relationships to shopping for meat
• Hook-up culture spreads diseases and trauma

Islam’s family model, tested for 14 centuries across billions of people, provides stability, security, dignity, and psychological health.

B. Social Solidarity and Brotherhood

Islam views society as one body, when one part hurts, the entire body feels pain.

إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌۭ فَأَصْلِحُوا۟ بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْكُمْ ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ ١٠

The believers are but one brotherhood, so make peace between your brothers. And be mindful of Allah so you may be shown mercy.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تُحِلُّوا۟ شَعَـٰٓئِرَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا ٱلشَّهْرَ ٱلْحَرَامَ وَلَا ٱلْهَدْىَ وَلَا ٱلْقَلَـٰٓئِدَ وَلَآ ءَآمِّينَ ٱلْبَيْتَ ٱلْحَرَامَ يَبْتَغُونَ فَضْلًۭا مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَرِضْوَٰنًۭا ۚ وَإِذَا حَلَلْتُمْ فَٱصْطَادُوا۟ ۚ وَلَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شَنَـَٔانُ قَوْمٍ أَن صَدُّوكُمْ عَنِ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ أَن تَعْتَدُوا۟ ۘ وَتَعَاوَنُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلْبِرِّ وَٱلتَّقْوَىٰ ۖ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِ ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ ٢

O believers! Do not violate Allah’s rituals ˹of pilgrimage˺, the sacred months, the sacrificial animals, the ˹offerings decorated with˺ garlands, nor those ˹pilgrims˺ on their way to the Sacred House seeking their Lord’s bounty and pleasure. When pilgrimage has ended, you are allowed to hunt. Do not let the hatred of a people who once barred you from the Sacred Mosque provoke you to transgress. Cooperate with one another in goodness and righteousness, and do not cooperate in sin and transgression. And be mindful of Allah. Surely Allah is severe in punishment.

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the limbs suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever”.

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection .”

“Gabriel kept advising me to be good to neighbors until I thought he would make them my heirs.”

Historical Examples:

The Constitution of Madinah (Sahifah) established the world’s first written constitution, guaranteeing rights to different tribes, creating unprecedented social harmony.

Islamic Andalusia (711-1492 CE) saw Muslims, Christians, and Jews living together in peace and prosperity for centuries, the “Convivencia” era remains one of history’s most tolerant periods.

The Ottoman millet system allowed different religious and ethnic groups autonomy, maintaining stability for centuries.

Compare to Modern Individualism:

In today’s liberal West:

• Elderly people die alone in their homes, undiscovered for weeks
• The UK created a “Ministry of Loneliness”
• Japan has hundreds of thousands of “hikikomori” (social recluses)
• Families are fragmented, everyone lives separately
• “Not my problem” mentality dominates

Islam’s communal bonds prevent this social atomization and loneliness epidemic.

C. Rights of Men and Women: Divinely Balanced Roles

Islam views men and women as different but equal in value, each with roles suited to their nature.

فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتْهَا قَالَتْ رَبِّ إِنِّى وَضَعْتُهَآ أُنثَىٰ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا وَضَعَتْ وَلَيْسَ ٱلذَّكَرُ كَٱلْأُنثَىٰ ۖ وَإِنِّى سَمَّيْتُهَا مَرْيَمَ وَإِنِّىٓ أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ ٣٦

When she delivered, she said, “My Lord! I have given birth to a girl,” and Allah fully knew what she had delivered, “and the male is not like the female. I have named her Mary, and I seek Your protection for her and her offspring from Satan, the accursed.”

وَٱلْمُطَلَّقَـٰتُ يَتَرَبَّصْنَ بِأَنفُسِهِنَّ ثَلَـٰثَةَ قُرُوٓءٍۢ ۚ وَلَا يَحِلُّ لَهُنَّ أَن يَكْتُمْنَ مَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ فِىٓ أَرْحَامِهِنَّ إِن كُنَّ يُؤْمِنَّ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۚ وَبُعُولَتُهُنَّ أَحَقُّ بِرَدِّهِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ إِنْ أَرَادُوٓا۟ إِصْلَـٰحًۭا ۚ وَلَهُنَّ مِثْلُ ٱلَّذِى عَلَيْهِنَّ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۚ وَلِلرِّجَالِ عَلَيْهِنَّ دَرَجَةٌۭ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ

Divorced women must wait three monthly cycles ˹before they can re-marry˺. It is not lawful for them to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs, if they ˹truly˺ believe in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands reserve the right to take them back within that period if they desire reconciliation. Women have rights similar to those of men equitably, although men have a degree ˹of responsibility˺ above them. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ مِن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌۭ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ نَقِيرًۭا ١٢٤

But those who do good, whether male or female, and have faith will enter Paradise and will never be wronged ˹even as much as˺ the speck on a date stone.

“The best of you are those who are best to women.”

The Prophet (peace be upon him) granted women rights to:

• Own property
• Conduct business
• Seek education
• Inherit wealth
• Initiate divorce
• Refuse marriage

These rights were granted in the 7th century, 1,300 years before Western women gained them.

Modern Western “Liberation”:

Today’s feminist movement has:

• Commodified women’s bodies in advertising and entertainment
• Forced women into corporate slavery under the guise of “empowerment”
• Destroyed motherhood and homemaking as dignified roles
• Created the “double shift”, women exploited at work AND at home
• Promoted promiscuity as “freedom” while spreading diseases and trauma

Islam honors women, protects them, and assigns them dignified roles according to their nature, not exploiting them as sex objects or wage slaves.

D. Education and Morality: Conscious and Conscientious Generations

Islam made seeking knowledge obligatory and considered good character the essence of religion.

أَمَّنْ هُوَ قَـٰنِتٌ ءَانَآءَ ٱلَّيْلِ سَاجِدًۭا وَقَآئِمًۭا يَحْذَرُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ وَيَرْجُوا۟ رَحْمَةَ رَبِّهِۦ ۗ قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِى ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْلَمُونَ وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ۗ إِنَّمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ ٩

“Say: Are those who know equal to those who do not know?”

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا قِيلَ لَكُمْ تَفَسَّحُوا۟ فِى ٱلْمَجَـٰلِسِ فَٱفْسَحُوا۟ يَفْسَحِ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ۖ وَإِذَا قِيلَ ٱنشُزُوا۟ فَٱنشُزُوا۟ يَرْفَعِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنكُمْ وَٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ دَرَجَـٰتٍۢ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌۭ ١١

O believers! When you are told to make room in gatherings, then do so. Allah will make room for you ˹in His grace˺. And if you are told to rise, then do so. Allah will elevate those of you who are faithful, and ˹raise˺ those gifted with knowledge in rank. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

“Seeking knowledge is a duty upon every Muslim, and he who imparts knowledge to those who do not deserve it, is like one who puts a necklace of jewels, pearls and gold around the neck of swines.”

“Seek knowledge even if it is in China.”

“The scholars are the inheritors of the prophets.”

Islamic Civilization’s Educational Excellence:

Islamic civilization created history’s most brilliant educational systems (9th-13th centuries):

• Bayt al-Hikmah (House of Wisdom) in Baghdad translated Greek, Persian, and Indian classics
• Al-Azhar University (975 CE) in Cairo: the world’s oldest continuously operating university
• Al-Qarawiyyin University (859 CE) in Fez: UNESCO-recognized as the world’s oldest degree-granting institution
• Nizamiyya Madrasas laid the foundation for the modern university system

Islamic scholars pioneered:

• Mathematics: Al-Khwarizmi (algebra, algorithms)
• Astronomy: Al-Battani, Ulugh Beg, Ibn al-Shatir
• Medicine: Ibn Sina (Canon of Medicine used in Europe for 800 years), Al-Razi
• Chemistry: Jabir ibn Hayyan (father of modern chemistry)
• Physics/Optics: Ibn al-Haytham (father of modern optics)
• Geography: Al-Idrisi, Ibn Battuta

These contributions laid the groundwork for the European Renaissance, yet the West conveniently forgets this debt.

II. POLITICAL DOMAIN: JUSTICE, CONSULTATION, AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Shariah’s political system is built on justice, consultation, and legitimacy, principles systematically violated by modern political systems.

A. Sovereignty Belongs to Allah: Divine Law Supreme Over Human Whims

مَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءًۭ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَـٰنٍ ۚ إِنِ ٱلْحُكْمُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ ۚ أَمَرَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلدِّينُ ٱلْقَيِّمُ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ٤٠

Whatever ˹idols˺ you worship instead of Him are mere names which you and your forefathers have made up1—a practice Allah has never authorized. It is only Allah Who decides. He has commanded that you worship none but Him. That is the upright faith, but most people do not know.

قَلِيلًۭا ۚ وَمَن لَّمْ يَحْكُم بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ

And those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed are ˹truly˺ the disbelievers.

لَّهُۥ ۚ وَمَن لَّمْ يَحْكُم بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ

And those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed are ˹truly˺ the wrongdoers.

This principle limits human legislative power and ensures that everyone, including rulers, submits to (only) Allah’s laws.

The Problem with Modern Secular Systems:

Today’s parliaments and congresses make up laws based on majority desires, making halal what Allah made haram and vice versa:

• Fornication, homosexuality, gambling, alcohol, all legalized
• Family structure redefined, marriage institution destroyed
• Usurious banks receive state protection
• Oppression of believers while protecting degeneracy

In Islam, fundamental legal and moral principles are set by Allah: unchangeable and non-negotiable.

B. Shura (Consultation): Participatory Governance

Islam rejects leaving decisions to one person’s arbitrary will, commanding consultation.

وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَشَاوِرْهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ فَإِذَا

“And consult them in the matter…”

وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَمْرُهُمْ شُورَىٰ بَيْنَهُمْ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ ٣٨

who respond to their Lord, establish prayer, conduct their affairs by mutual consultation, and donate from what We have provided for them

Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said upon his selection as Caliph:

“O people! I have been appointed over you, though I am not the best among you. If I do well, help me; if I do wrong, correct me.”

Umar ibn al-Khattab administered state affairs through consultative councils (ahl al-hall wa al-‘aqd), seeking the opinions of scholars and Companions on important matters.

C. Justice and the Prohibition of Oppression

In Islam, the ruler is the servant of the people, not their master.

۞ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْعَدْلِ وَٱلْإِحْسَـٰنِ وَإِيتَآئِ ذِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَيَنْهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلْفَحْشَآءِ وَٱلْمُنكَرِ وَٱلْبَغْىِ ۚ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ ٩٠

Indeed, Allah commands justice, grace, as well as generosity to close relatives. He forbids indecency, wickedness, and aggression. He instructs you so perhaps you will be mindful.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُونُوا۟ قَوَّٰمِينَ لِلَّهِ شُهَدَآءَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۖ وَلَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شَنَـَٔانُ قَوْمٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَلَّا تَعْدِلُوا۟ ۚ ٱعْدِلُوا۟ هُوَ أَقْرَبُ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ ۖ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ ٨

O believers! Stand firm for Allah and bear true testimony. Do not let the hatred of a people lead you to injustice. Be just! That is closer to righteousness. And be mindful of Allah. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) declared:

that Quraish became concerned about the case of the Makhzumi woman who had stolen, and they said: “Who will speak to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) concerning her?” 

They said: “Who would dare to do that other than Usamah bin Zaid, the beloved of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?” So Usamah spoke to him, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Are you interceding concerning one of the legal punishments of Allah (SWT)?“ Then he stood up and addressed (the people) and said: “O people! Those who came before you were only destroyed because when one of their nobles stole, they let him off, but when one of the weak people among them stole, they would carry out the punishment on him. By Allah, if Fatimah the daughter of Muhammad were to steal, I would cut off her hand.”

During Umar’s Caliphate, the son of Amr ibn al-As (Governor of Egypt) wronged a Coptic Christian. The Copt traveled to Madinah and complained to Umar. Umar summoned the governor’s son and gave the Copt a whip, saying:

“Strike the son of the noble!” Then he uttered his famous words: “Since when have you enslaved people though they were born free?”

Al-Sha’bi reported: Ali ibn Abi Talib saw a Christian man wearing his lost armor and he decided to take up the matter legally, so he brought the dispute to the judge Shurayh. 

Ali said, “This is my armor and I have not sold it or given it away.”  The judge said to the Christian, “What do you say about what the commander of the faithful has said?” 

The Christian said, “It is my armor, but I do not consider the commander of the faithful to be a liar.” 

The judge turned to Ali and he said, “O commander of the faithful, do you have proof?” Ali laughed and he said, “Shurayh is correct. I do not have proof.” Thus, the judge ruled in favor of the Christian. 

The Christian took the armor and began to walk away, but then he returned and he said, “As for me, I testify that this is the wisdom of the prophets. The commander of the faithful himself has taken me to his judge and the judge has ruled against him! I testify that there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. By Allah, the armor is yours. I followed the army while you were on your way to Siffin and the armor fell from your luggage.” Ali said, “If you have embraced Islam, the armor is yours.”

Despite being the Caliph, he accepted the court’s decision like any ordinary citizen.

D. Accountability: Oversight of Rulers

In Islam, rulers are not absolute authorities, they are subject to oversight by the people and the law.

Our prophet said:

“All of you are shepherds and each of you is responsible for his flock. The imam (ruler) is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock…”

“Whoever is appointed by Allah as a governor over people and dies without striving for their welfare, Allah will forbid Paradise for him.”

In Islam, opposing rulers with truth is not just a right like liberalism; but it’s a duty.

Abu Bakr said upon his selection:

“O People! I have been put in charge over you, but I am not the best of you. If I act well, then help me, and if I act badly, put me right. Truthfulness is a trust and lying is treachery. The weak among you is strong in my sight until I restore this right to him, Allah willing. The strong among you is weak in my sight until I take the right from him, Allah willing. People do not abandon jihād in the way of Allah but that Allah afflicts them with humiliation. Shamelessness does not spread in a people but that Allah envelops them in affliction. Obey me as long as I obey Allah and His Messenger. If I disobey Allah and His Messenger, you owe me no obedience.”

Umar said in a sermon:

“If you see crookedness in me, straighten me.” A Companion stood and said: “O Commander of the Believers! If we see crookedness in you, we will straighten you with our swords!” Umar was pleased and said: “Praise be to Allah who has made in my Ummah those who will straighten Umar.”

According to another report, Umar asked Salman al-Farisi: “Am I a king or a caliph?” Salman said: “ If you collect from the land a dirham, or less or more, and put it where it does not belong, then you are a king and not a caliph.” And Umar wept.

Modern Autocratic Regimes:

Today, many Muslim countries (unfortunately) have authoritarian regimes that make rulers unaccountable. Opposition is silenced, media controlled, civil society crushed. This completely contradicts Islam’s political principles.

In Western democracies, while accountability mechanisms exist, the system itself is controlled by elites (oligarchy) and lobbies (especially finance and weapons). People vote, but real decisions are made behind closed doors.

V. SHARIAH’S SUPERIORITY: COMPREHENSIVE AND BALANCED SOLUTION

Shariah is a balanced and comprehensive life system that addresses all the deficiencies of the ideologies mentioned above, aligned with human nature.

Shariah’s Superiority:

1. Divine Source: Shariah is not man-made but the system the Creator has established for humanity. Therefore, it is most aligned with human nature.

2. Wholeness: Shariah maintains the balance of soul-body, individual-society, worldly life-afterlife. It neglects no area.

3. Justice: Shariah ensures justice between rich-poor, male-female, ruler-ruled. No one can exploit anyone.

4. Balance: Shariah avoids extremes and follows the middle path. Neither individualistic like capitalism nor collectivist like socialism. Neither majoritarian like democracy nor despotic like autocracy.

“And thus We have made you a middle (balanced) nation…” (Al-Baqarah 2:143)

5. Morality: Shariah ties morality to objective principles. Haram and halal are not matters of relativity.

6. Stability: Shariah has been the way of life for billions of people for 14 centuries, proving its stability. Modern ideologies are in constant crisis.

CONCLUSION: THE FINAL VERDICT

Shariah is not just a legal system, it is a comprehensive life order that regulates humans, society, state, and universe according to Divine standards.

In Economics: By prohibiting tools of oppression like interest, waste, and hoarding; through solidarity mechanisms like zakat, charity, and endowments, it ensures justice and prosperity.

In Social Affairs: It protects the family, strengthens social solidarity, elevates education and morality together.

In Politics: It ensures justice, consultation, accountability, legitimacy; prevents oppression.

Modern ideologies (capitalism, socialism, democracy, liberalism), being disconnected from human nature, Divine guidance, and afterlife consciousness, have failed to produce fundamental solutions and instead created new crises.

Humanity can only find real solutions to the economic injustice, social disintegration, political oppression, and cultural degradation it faces today in the system Allah has established.

وَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَن ذِكْرِى فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ مَعِيشَةًۭ ضَنكًۭا وَنَحْشُرُهُۥ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ أَعْمَىٰ

But whoever turns away from My Reminder will certainly have a miserable life,1 then We will raise them up blind on the Day of Judgment.”

مَنْ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًۭا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌۭ فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُۥ حَيَوٰةًۭ طَيِّبَةًۭ ۖ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْرَهُم بِأَحْسَنِ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

Whoever does good, whether male or female, and is a believer, We will surely bless them with a good life, and We will certainly reward them according to the best of their deeds.

SHARIAH IS THE SALVATION PRESCRIPTION FOR HUMANITY. Historical experiences, Quranic verses, Hadiths, and logical evidence all demonstrate this.

The duty of Muslims today is to understand this truth, live it, and present it to humanity.

The time for apologetics is OVER. The time for compromise is OVER. The time for weakness is OVER. The system of Allah is SUPERIOR. The law of Allah is SUPREME. The guidance of Allah is PERFECT.

Modern civilization is collapsing under the weight of its own contradictions. While capitalists drown in their greed, socialists suffocate under totalitarian boots, democrats worship the false god of majority rule, and liberals destroy themselves with unbounded “freedom”, Islam stands as the ONLY coherent, comprehensive, and divinely-guided alternative.

قُلْ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ قَدْ جَآءَكُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ فَمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ فَإِنَّمَا يَهْتَدِى لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيْهَا ۖ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ عَلَيْكُم بِوَكِيلٍۢ

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “O humanity! The truth has surely come to you from your Lord. So whoever chooses to be guided, it is only for their own good. And whoever chooses to stray, it is only to their own loss. And I am not a keeper over you.”

The choice is clear. The evidence is overwhelming. The path is illuminated.

Either submit to the Creator’s system and achieve success in this life and the next, or continue following man-made ideologies into the abyss of failure, oppression, and destruction.

There is no middle ground. There is no compromise. There is no alternative.

SHARIAH OR CHAOS. ISLAM OR JAHILIYYAH (IGNORANCE). SUBMISSION TO ALLAH OR SLAVERY TO DESIRES. The verdict of history is clear. The judgment of reality is undeniable. The testimony of truth is irrefutable.

THE EVIDENCE IS CRYSTAL CLEAR.
