2- Foreword
All praises are due to Allah, His Messengers, His family, and His companions.
The humiliation that Muslims faced in the 20th and 21st centuries is truly astonishing. We were once the beacon of justice, humanity, philosophy, medicine, science, hope, and so much more.
After the fall of the Islamic State, Muslims were unable to re-establish it, not due to a lack of will or capability, but because the anti-Islamic colonial powers did not allow it.
The fall of the Islamic State was a planned and deliberate destruction, aimed at paving the way for colonization and attacks on Muslim lands. These powers knew they would not be able to succeed in their agenda as long as a unified Islamic State, like the Ottoman Empire, stood in their way.
We have witnessed the destruction of Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Palestine, Sudan, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, America, Syria, Iraq, Vietnam, Japan, and so many others.
We, as regular human beings, often feel like we can’t do much, or at least we think that way. But in reality, everything ends up in our hands.
Yes, we might not be able to command an entire army to rescue the crying baby in Palestine, but we can raise our voices and pressure those in power to act.
Everyone has a role to play.
One person may have influence and can lead an army. Another may excel in debate and confront Zionist narratives, refuting their arguments. Someone else may be skilled in research, providing the debater with solid sources and context. A journalist can expose the brutal realities of Gaza to the world. A doctor may travel to Palestine to treat the wounded and care for children.
Each person does what they are capable of. Together, it becomes a powerful movement.
Helping the Palestinian people achieve fairness and human rights is a big deal that needs everyone’s attention. While the situation might seem really complicated, when we all work together, understand the issues, and stick with it, we can truly make a difference. We’ll focus on peaceful methods and actions that create lasting change. By getting involved in different areas, like learning, giving aid, using economic pressure, speaking up to leaders, using social media, and supporting culture, we can build a strong global movement that helps with immediate needs and fixes the root causes of unfairness.
3- America, 9/11, Isis; A show of lies destroyed by Hamas
America portrayed Islam as a terrorist ideology through the 9/11 attacks and the rise of ISIS. The 9/11 event was a planned destruction, crafted to label Muslims as terrorists — and it sparked a massive wave of anti-Islam propaganda around the world. With that act, America painted Muslims as the villains of the story. But the reality was far from that.
Once Muslims were labeled as terrorists, America could launch attacks against Muslim countries without much opposition, because they claimed to be “fighting terrorism.”
The war crimes committed by America in Iraq, especially in places like Abu Ghraib, are hard even to read about. The horrific acts carried out there are beyond disturbing. We won’t go into the details here.
After branding Muslims as terrorists, the next step was to discredit the idea of an Islamic state based on the Qur’an and Sunnah. So they invented ISIS.
ISIS was like a twisted, theatrical performance and the main actor behind it was America. They staged a show for the world, pretending that this is what an Islamic state looks like. Yet it was completely detached from the reality of Islam. It was brutal, corrupt, and far from the mercy, justice, and wisdom found in a real Islamic governance.
Before the October 7 attack carried out by Hamas, people saw every single Muslim as a terrorist. But after the attack, Hamas showed the world the true face of Islam, and the world began to open its eyes.
Hamas demonstrated the kindness and beauty of Islam through:
– the respectful and humane treatment of the hostages,
– their willingness to help those in need,
– their patience and steadfast resistance.
All of this made one thing clear to the world:
America and Israel are liars, and everything they say is false. They purposely misrepresented Islam.”
Once people began to see the truth, conversion rates to Islam in Europe skyrocketed, increasing by 300–400%.
In Tokyo, Japan, people stood in lines to embrace Islam.
In Argentina, people came in groups to the mosques to learn about Islam and so much more.
4- Islamic Caliphate, a wing around every single breath, and why do we need it back?
The Islamic Caliphate, is a wing around every single human beeing adn every animal.
Serdar Yılmaz, a turkish writer states;
Whenever the topic of the Caliphate comes up for discussion in Turkey, a certain group of writers, academics, political figures, and media personalities immediately begin to attack the idea. They try to belittle the Caliphate, claiming it is an “empty slogan” or a “fantasy.” They bring up negative events from certain difficult periods in Muslim history, using the outcry of “This is what happened when the Caliphate existed!” to discredit it. To hide the magnificent cultural and civilizational advances and the global civilization built over 13 centuries, they highlight some local events that occurred during that time. Unfortunately, these same people fail to see the massacres, barbarism, oppression, and corruption that have occurred over just the last century of Western hegemony.
There is nothing defensible about this global system of chaos that plunders all the wealth of the earth, condemns billions of people to starvation, does not hesitate to set the world on fire for its own interests, corrupts crops and generations, destroys the family, ruins the youth, views women as cheap labor and sexual objects, corrupts the natural order of everything, makes life unlivable, and disregards all rights and laws. This system can no longer be defended even by Western people. The genocide in Gaza, in particular, has thoroughly exposed the baby-killing face of the West.
In these days when this global system of corruption and chaos is on the verge of collapse, the only viable alternative system of governance for humanity is the Islamic system of governance: the Righteous Caliphate. The world, not just Muslims, is in need of this system, which brought justice and peace to the earth for 13 centuries and made Muslims a symbol of honor and glory.
4.1- The Caliphate will end the genocide in Gaza!
The Caliphate and Palestine are like conjoined twins. The establishment of the Jewish entity and the occupation of Palestine are a direct result of the abolition of the Caliphate. Therefore, liberation from the evils committed by the Jews in Palestine and around the world depends on the re-establishment of the Caliphate.
The Jewish entity has committed grave crimes against both the Islamic community and the world. For this reason, the world must be saved from its evils. This requires politically uprooting this entity. Politically, a global sense of “disgust” regarding this entity and its arrogance is growing. This disgust will help create a global atmosphere to eliminate the Jewish entity.
In addition to this political motivation, Islamic law also mandates that the community mobilize to cleanse the holy lands from the filth and impurities of the Jews. This problem cannot be solved through diplomatic channels, failed, and fake negotiations. On the contrary, the solution lies in the mobilization of armies, inspired by the promise that Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque will once again return to Muslim authority. It is clear that this will not happen with the current state of Islamic lands and the existing global system. The only system that can make this possible is, without a doubt, the Caliphate. The Righteous Caliphate is the only system that will unshackle the military will of the Islamic community’s armies to fulfill the obligation of aiding Palestine and restore these armies to their original purpose.
4.2- The Caliphate will liberate all occupied lands!
In the past, Islamic lands experienced periods of occupation. However, at that time, the community had the Caliphate, a state of their own that united the community and was responsible for protecting and looking after the Muslims. The existence of this state always kept the hope and expectation alive that one day they would be liberated, even in the face of the most severe occupations. The Caliphs consistently strove to act against attacks and occupations, mobilizing their armies to save Muslims from the hands of the infidels. As a result, even when they faced century-long occupations and major massacres, as was the case with the Crusader and Tatar attacks, the Caliphs of the Islamic State repelled these attacks and lifted the occupations, no matter the cost. This is the most significant difference between the current occupied state of the community and the past. Today, there is neither a Caliph to mobilize the armies for the community nor a unity to ensure the community’s salvation.
Today, there are more than 50 so-called independent states created in the fragmented Islamic lands. Each of these states is connected to each other based on the sacredness of its own nation and the lands (homeland) defined by the colonialists. As a result, the community consciousness that should exist in the Islamic lands has been replaced by nationalist and patriotic sentiments. Therefore, despite being in Islamic lands, what happens to one of these states does not concern the others in any way. Each one takes an indifferent and irresponsible attitude towards what is being done to the other children of the community outside its own borders. The effect of this fragmentation and occupation on the community has been so great that the bravest children of the community, the Kurds, Turks, and Arabs, who used to run from front to front to glorify the banner of Islam, have been made to hate each other. Allah Almighty says:
“And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute, lest you lose courage and your strength depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.”
[وَاعْتَصِمُواْ بِحَبْلِ اللّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلاَ تَفَرَّقُو]
“And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided.”
The sedition introduced into Islamic lands by the colonialist infidels and the Western culture that the community has gradually adopted undoubtedly make things more difficult today, thickening the borders between them. The colonialist infidels, taking advantage of this situation, do not hesitate to prepare one project after another to seize our underground and aboveground wealth and exploit us, and they even openly compete with each other while implementing these projects. The price of this shameless competition in the Islamic lands, from the abolition of the Caliphate to the present day, has been the massacre of millions of Muslims, the violation of their honor, the plundering of their possessions, their abandonment to rot in prisons, and their displacement from their lands to live in camps. Since the beginning of the 2000s alone, the number of Muslims killed in the attacks of the colonialist infidels has been in the millions. The people of countries such as Sudan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt are still paying the price. There is no need to even mention regions like Palestine, East Turkestan, and Arakan, where the oppression has become chronic since the Caliphate’s fall.
Therefore, the only power that will end the occupation and massacres in Muslim lands, reunite the community under one roof, maintain its unity, and protect its lives, property, and honor is the Caliphate State. Just as the infidels saw the way to victory against Muslims in destroying the state that kept them united, thereby fragmenting and occupying our lands, the way to drive them out of these lands, to unite the fragmented lands, and to establish the unity of the community is through the establishment of the Caliphate State. For this reason, the only effort to be made for the salvation of the community and its return to its days of glory and honor is the effort to establish the Second Righteous Caliphate State, in accordance with the method of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). Any other effort, no matter how sincere the intentions, will only waste the community’s energy and lead to repeating the same failures and falling into despair again and again, as has been experienced many times before.
4.3- The Caliphate will protect our underground and aboveground energy sources and all our wealth!
The Islamic geography is located at the intersection of three continents—Asia, Europe, and Africa—rich in strategic and geostrategically important waterways, seas, energy sources, underground minerals, and agricultural lands. The fact that this geography is at the center of all major transportation routes further increases the strategic importance of the region. Having such rich underground and aboveground resources and being in a magnificent strategic location has made this region the focus of conflict throughout history.
The Islamic world, especially in terms of energy sources like oil and natural gas, has an undeniable reality as having the world’s richest reserves. The oil reserves of the Middle Eastern countries alone account for over 50% of the world’s total oil reserves, while the total oil and natural gas reserves of the entire Islamic world account for 70% of the world’s total reserves—which means hundreds of trillions of dollars worth of energy resources. When we consider the resources still waiting to be discovered, the immensity of this wealth becomes even clearer. The fact that nearly half of the world’s total reserves of uranium, a strategic raw material for nuclear energy, are located in the Islamic world has further increased the importance of the region.
Minerals that are raw materials for industry—especially for heavy industry, such as chromium and iron—are abundant in this geography. Phosphate, used in the fertilizer industry, is also very concentrated, especially in North African countries. The rich reserves of manganese, cobalt, boron, and hundreds of other types of minerals in this geography have caused all eyes to turn to the treasures of this region.
When we look at the aboveground resources, it can be seen that the Islamic geography, located at the intersection of three continents, has millions of hectares of fertile agricultural lands and important rivers and streams to irrigate them. The Tigris and Euphrates rivers—which start in Turkey and irrigate Mesopotamia, the world’s most fertile lands in Iraq and Syria—as well as the Orontes, Amu Darya, Syr Darya, Ganges, and Jordan rivers in Asia, and the Nile and Niger rivers in Africa, give life to the lands they pass through by irrigating them. The Islamic geography, which has abundant water resources for fertile lands and is at the center of various climates, is the natural growing area for the world’s most diverse and fertile agricultural products. These agricultural lands have the abundance and blessings to produce enough food for the entire world if they were cultivated.
The fact that it is adjacent to seas and oceans and hosts the world’s most strategic waterways like the Bosphorus, Dardanelles, Gibraltar, Hormuz, and Bab-el-Mandeb straits and the Suez Canal is enough to show how geostrategically important this geography is. The fact that more than 50% of the world’s total trade takes place through these waterways and that it has important islands and ports and the Silk and Spice routes pass through the Islamic world provides this geography with great commercial, military, and political advantages.
Furthermore, this geography, which has the world’s youngest and most active population, constitutes a great military power, an important labor potential, a strong demographic structure, and harbors the potential to provide the region with immense superiority.
For these hundreds of reasons, which we have listed and not listed, this geography has been a region that the West has wanted to possess throughout history and has not refrained from using all means of exploitation to do so. Never before has this exploitation been as savage as it is today. Today, our oil and natural gas, worth hundreds of trillions of dollars, are being squandered for a very small amount of money to European countries, America, China, and Japan through the hands of agent, servant, and puppet rulers, so that while they add to their power with the community’s energy sources, the community is left to just watch these resources being wasted. Whinston Churchill, a former prime minister of the British, one of the oldest colonialists, declared how savage their mentality was with his words, “One drop of oil is worth more than a drop of blood.” Many facts we have witnessed have shown us that they do not hesitate to kill hundreds and thousands of people for a single drop of oil. Unfortunately, we also witness that our underground resources, which contain dozens of strategically important minerals, and hundreds of types of minerals, which should be the raw materials for the community’s industry, are being squandered for very small sums of money.
Our most valuable aboveground resources, our agricultural lands, have been rendered unusable by being sold to Western masters, leased for long periods, or through certain acquisitions. By being rendered unable to produce our own food products, we are condemned to buy our basic food products from these colonialists. Thanks to this dependency, they manage us as they wish. In this regard, the words of former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, “If you control the oil, you control the nations; if you control the food, you control the people,” explain why millions of people die of hunger and malnutrition every year today. Furthermore, the energy and time of our young, dynamic population are being exploited, sometimes as workers in the West’s industrial cogs, and sometimes as laborers working for a pittance in mines and agricultural lands. A significant portion of the population, despite being a potentially much more productive human resource, is being virtually enslaved by being forced to work for meager wages for almost two-thirds of the day due to the capitalist systems applied to us, and this human resource is being wasted.
The children of the community in the Islamic world, which was founded on the remains of the Ottoman Empire and divided into more than 50 states, are being poisoned with foreign Western-origin ideas such as nationalism, patriotism, secularism, socialism, liberalism, and democracy. Of course, the West does not inject this poison directly itself; it does so through the hands of agents and servants who come from within us, who have local names and local appearances but have imported minds. As a result of brains clouded with dirty ideas, our bodies, which have become ready for occupation and exploitation, have had exploitation permeate even our capillaries. As a result, even though our eyes see and our ears hear those who slyly steal our time, our actions, our people, our underground, and aboveground resources, our minds, filled with false and misleading ideas, unfortunately, have become unable to perceive this exploitation and this theft.
The rulers at the head of the Muslims in the Islamic world, instead of protecting these priceless underground and aboveground resources of the community, are causing these resources to be plundered. So, the question arises: “If today’s rulers are incapable of protecting this wealth, who and how will this wealth be protected?” Without a doubt, this is none other than the Caliphate, which for 1400 years ruled millions of square kilometers of land on three continents—from the borders of China in the east to Spain in the west and to the middle of Africa in the south—justly governed millions of people of hundreds of different faiths and cultures, and even protected the lives, property, and honor of the non-Muslims within its borders.
When the Islamic community returns to the world stage as the Caliphate State, it will achieve its material rise in the shortest possible time and eliminate its economic and technological dependence on the West. It will not have a shortage of underground resources, population, labor force, knowledge, or resources to do this. For in terms of oil, natural gas, rare elements, and strategic materials necessary to achieve the industrial revolution, such as iron and steel, the community is in a unique position.
4.4- The Caliphate will establish a just legal order!
A legal system has only one purpose, which is to establish justice. Various meanings can be attached to justice, but it can be defined as “rights being served” and “parties being content with the judgment.” Since a judgment is given for rights to be served, a question might come to mind: “What is a right?” A right can be defined as the interests granted by a superior power. In this case, we can make the following observation: The security of the interests and benefits granted to us by a superior power is an indication that a just order exists. This is the biggest problem of today’s world: Who is this superior power? In other words, what should be the source of legal systems? Should it be based on religion/revelation, or should it be the product of human/reason? Today, almost the entire world applies Western-centric legal systems, referred to as “universal legal norms,” and the source of all these legal systems is human beings.
The most important element in a legal order is justice. The desired system is a just one that will protect people’s rights, prevent rights violations, and include deterrent penalties. So, the main question is: “Can a human being create a just system?” The best answer to this question lies in the applications of legal systems established by humans. The outcome of human-based legal systems in a world dominated by capitalism is evident: The world has turned into a crime arena, people corrupted by democracy have become veritable crime machines, and prisons in every country are overflowing. The righteous and the unrighteous cannot be distinguished, and naturally, the righteous are always the powerful, those who dominate with their power. The world has gone off its axis, and people have become longing for a peaceful and secure life. Crimes such as murders, rapes, drug use, theft, fraud, etc., have increased at a rate never seen before in history. The USA is at the top of the list of countries where the most crimes are committed. This is followed by Canada, Germany, and Italy, respectively. In some countries, states cannot even cope with crime organizations, and some states have become centers of drug trafficking. What makes people so wayward, corrupt, and rebellious is the capitalist-based lifestyle, the unlimited freedoms given to people, and the rules of law that emanate from the human mind.
The same situation is also highly prevalent in our country. Although the legal system applied is described as a universal system, the reality is not like this at all. When we consider that the Republic, established in 1923, changed its constitution five times in 93 years, you can imagine the state of the other legal rules. Throughout the history of the Republic, law has become a weapon used by the government. First, tens of thousands of Muslims were executed in show trials by secular Kemalists to force the acceptance of the regime. The legal system, which remained under the rule of the Kemalists for many years, has never been independent. After the Kemalists, the Gulenists, and now after the Gulenists, a mixed pro-government team is trying to operate a so-called legal order. The principle of the separation of powers, which is a big lie of democracy itself, is also a huge lie. For an independent judiciary has never existed and can never exist.
This is the sad state of the world and our country! It is also obvious that the world and our country cannot progress further with the current legal system. This is why there is a great need for Islam, which is a just legal system, and for the Caliphate, which will apply this legal system. The legal system that the Caliphate will apply will not be like human-based legal systems, which are weak, limited, needy, contradictory, contentious, and create varying judgments. The legal system it will apply is Islam; its source is revelation.
4.5- The Caliphate is the only system that will protect the family and generations on the verge of extinction!
In the West, which has a capitalist mentality, the family institution has collapsed, generations have become extinct, and human, moral, and spiritual values are on the verge of extinction. This is because the West looks at the relationship between men and women only from the angle of sexual relations, instead of from the perspective of the survival of the human species. Since the West does not base the relationships between men and women on human nature, and looks at people from the perspective of “masculinity” and “femininity,” the solutions it proposes are also wrong. This is because the West sees this lifestyle as “getting pleasure from life” and believes in it. Not only that, but it also claims and markets that if men and women cannot freely satisfy their sexual needs as they wish, many physical, psychological, and mental illnesses will arise.
The studies published by the European Statistical Institute reflect the grim picture of Western society. The average divorce rate has reached 60%. The average birth rate from non-marital unions has exceeded 50%. Despite the laws enacted in Europe to encourage the family institution to prevent this crisis, the divorce and non-marital relationship rates are increasing every day. At the same time, “divorce fairs” are organized in Europe and the USA under the name of a “new beginning.” These fairs aim to help couples get through this difficult period by providing them with psychological support. The pitiable but natural result of fighting with one’s Lord against human nature and needs is evident in Western societies.
The situation in our country, while better than the West, is getting worse every day. Since the day the Western lifestyle and systems were adopted and forcibly imposed on Muslims, marriage rates have been decreasing, the family structure is deteriorating, problems are increasing, and millions of families are being destroyed. Non-marital relationships and unmarried partnerships are being normalized in movies and TV series in a planned and organized way; these kinds of immoral relationships are marketed to society by famous people. Inhumane and immoral relationships under the name of “flirting” are being encouraged for young people who want to keep their chastity and morals clean. While the path for young people to get married is made difficult for unnecessary and baseless reasons, the path to forbidden things is opened, and various immoralities, many physical and spiritual diseases, adultery, prostitution, and perverted relationships are becoming widespread. As a natural result, violence, harassment, rape, and various problems are increasing.
Violence against women and even murders continue to increase despite all the measures taken, protection laws, and shelters. The number of happy and peaceful homes is decreasing every day. The unregulated freedom, “women’s rights,” and “gender equality” concepts of democracy and economic spirals are hitting families. A rebellious youth that does not obey their parents at a young age is growing up. Muslim women who seek civilization in the Western lifestyle and are obsessed with it are losing their honor and glory in the name of having equal rights and being free with men. Muslim women are being marketed for taxes in state-controlled brothels—in a legal way. The prostitution sector continues to grow and operate every day! No serious measures are being taken to prevent this.
Our youth and generations, who are called the guarantors of our future, are being condemned to a life of following their lusts, in the swamp of drugs, and in a spiral of crime and violence. They are being turned into identity-less and personality-less individuals who have no hope for life and are unaware of the values that make a human being human. These are truths that are clearly seen by everyone and do not need to be explained. For the two fundamental elements that raise ideal generations and build the future are the family and society. The destruction of society and the family is the destruction of humanity. The current system ignores these two elements and only prioritizes interests and benefits. The only system that will stop this destructive process is the Caliphate system, which views the family as a “fortress to be protected” and society as a “ship that will lead to happiness in this world and the hereafter,” and has rulings that prioritize their protection.
5- Why was the Islamic state destroyed?
The British, as shown in the sources and documents we will present below, were the ones who essentially enabled the establishment of the Turkish state. Many reasons can be cited here, but the topic we will focus on in this article is to weaken the power of Muslims, take control, and by abolishing the caliphate, prevent Muslims from declaring a major jihad against them and ensure that they remain docile.
According to a report dated May 4, 1919, from the British Foreign Office, the Muslim population has difficulty distinguishing between the religious and political roles of the caliph. Britain argues that it would be wrong for the caliph to hold both religious and administrative duties, and that administrative affairs should be delegated to someone else. If the Peace Conference divides Muslim countries among Christian powers, the caliphate will effectively end. However, it is predicted that at least two Muslim states, such as Turkey and Hejaz, will continue to exist. If the sultan in Turkey continues to be seen as the caliph, this will negatively influence other Muslim countries. Therefore, the proposed solution is to depose the sultan and establish a republic in Turkey. Thus, King Hussein will have no rival. Furthermore, they will place obedient, servile rulers who will serve them at the heads of the regional states.
Within the British government, strong opposition also arose against the idea of separating Istanbul from the Turkish state. On the afternoon of May 17, the Council of Four received a delegation from the Indian Government. The delegation, led by India’s Secretary of State for India, Edwin Montagu, requested the protection of an independent Turkish state that would include Asia Minor, Istanbul, and Thrace, and sought its acceptance into the League of Nations. The delegates emphasized the religious significance of the Sultan as the Caliph, noting that seventy million Muslims lived in India, many of whom had participated in the war in the Near East, and all of whom wanted to see the Caliph in Istanbul.
The delegation also drew attention to the historical colonial ties of the British and French with Islam and to the Fourteen Points. As soon as the delegation left the room, Lloyd George expressed his opinion that the partition of territory would cause major problems.
The discomfort within the Islamic world would be so great that no Western country could successfully administer a mandate over Muslim regions. Therefore, Lloyd George was firmly determined to find a solution that would leave the Sultan in Istanbul as the religious leader of the Islamic world.
The Straits would undoubtedly be taken, but a method had to be found to give the impression that the Sultan still held the capital in Istanbul. During a speech on January 5, 1918, Lloyd George’s statement that the capital would be left to the Turks suddenly became a solemn promise, and the British leader expressed England’s wholehearted commitment to this idea. For someone who, four days earlier, had said, “The Turks are cruel people when they lose power. No matter what Indian Muslims say, ending the Turkish regime is a necessity for us,” this was a complete reversal. Indeed, two days prior, Lloyd George was leading those defending the Italian mandate in southern Anatolia.
September 1908. Captain Mustafa Kemal Bey was sent to Tripolitania (Trablusgarb) by the Committee of Union and Progress to eliminate the dissatisfaction, opposition, and even uprisings of the local population against the Young Turk Revolution of July 23, 1908. Mustafa Kemal Bey attracted the attention of the British consul he visited due to certain qualities and activities:
About five days earlier, after listening to his speech which clearly and strikingly outlined the principles and goals followed by his party, and seeing how enthusiastically it was applauded by a large audience representing all classes of the population, I can testify that he is a speaker who expresses his thoughts in an effective and fluent manner. […]
He had come to see me the other day, and I had the opportunity to observe that he was in a very calm and quiet state of mind. He left the impression on me of a person with an energetic and determined character, which I believe will be confirmed later. If some local anarchistic acts continue, these two qualities will inevitably come to the fore.
1909; The British aimed either to take control of the Caliphate institution or to abolish it through local allies:
From the remorseful expressions and confessions of Rıza Tevfik Bey, one of the secret planners of the 31 March Incident, we learn about “England’s efforts and hesitations to take the Caliphate from the Turkish State, and later to directly govern it or have it destroyed through Turkish rulers.”
Before the removal of Sultan Abdulhamid II, it is recorded that Rıza Tevfik and his associates were strongly encouraged by the British ambassador, as well as the French and Italian ambassadors. They later admitted to receiving significant advice from them.
In 1909, when Rıza Tevfik visited Lord Nicholson, the British ambassador to Turkey and a Scottish nobleman, to thank him for his support and revive old friendship, he asked why the Istanbul Embassy (the British Embassy in Istanbul in 1909) showed him a cold “non-acceptance.”
Lord Nicholson’s confession revealed England’s true attitude and policy regarding the Caliphate:
Nicholson said:
“We encouraged the Young Turks. We expected great results from them. There would be a revolution; the Sultan would be overthrown along with despotism, and especially the Caliphate institution he represented would be toppled. But we were deceived. The Constitution came, but the Sultan and especially the Caliphate institution remained in place…”
Upon hearing this, Rıza Tevfik asked Lord Nicholson:
“Why does the British government care so deeply about the Caliphate institution?”
Lord Nicholson replied:
“We spent millions of gold, especially in Egypt and India, to bring the Islamic masses under our control, but we failed. Meanwhile, the Sultan… once a year sends a ‘Royal Salute’ and a ‘Hafiz Osman Quran,’ holding the entire Islamic Ummah in boundless respect and under his command. We expected that after the revolution and the Young Turks, the Sultans and the Caliphate would be overthrown, along with the power to keep the masses under control with a new Royal Salute and a Hafiz Osman Quran. We were deceived. That is why you were met with a cold non-acceptance…”
6- What can i do for Palestine?
Helping the Palestinian people achieve fairness and human rights is a big deal that needs everyone’s attention. While the situation might seem really complicated, when we all work together, understand the issues, and stick with it, we can truly make a difference. We’ll focus on peaceful methods and actions that create lasting change. By getting involved in different areas, like learning, giving aid, using economic pressure, speaking up to leaders, using social media, and supporting culture, we can build a strong global movement that helps with immediate needs and fixes the root causes of unfairness.
6.01- Introduction: Understanding the Call for Change
People all over the world are calling for fairness in Palestine, and this call deeply connects with those who care about human rights. It’s about realizing that even small actions, when many people do them together, can have a huge impact on big global issues. Supporting Palestine isn’t just one thing; it’s many different efforts that help with both the urgent humanitarian crisis and the deeper, ongoing problems. This work will give you a full picture of how to help effectively, showing how all these different ways of getting involved are connected. Real, lasting change comes from a complete plan that helps right now while also working to fix unfair systems for good.
6.02- Educate and Inform: Building a Foundation of Knowledge
Really understanding the Palestinian-Israeli situation is the most important first step for anyone who wants to help. Without a clear picture of the history and what’s happening now, even good intentions might not lead to the most effective actions. Knowing the facts helps you make smart choices and figure out the best ways to contribute to change.
6.02.1- Deepening Your Understanding of the Conflict’s History and What’s Happening Now
It’s a good idea to carefully look into and read about the history of the conflict, the current political situation, and the many instances of human rights abuses that have happened. This basic knowledge helps you understand the problems better, so you can offer more effective support. It’s also important to keep learning; stay updated by following trusted news sources that cover the conflict and keep up with the latest events. This helps you continue to speak up and take meaningful action for those affected.
Many sources agree that education is super important. For example, the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) says that understanding the issues is the first step to figuring out how to help. Even within Palestine, education is seen as a basic human right that can change society by giving power to groups like disabled children and girls, and helping people make smart choices about their future. This focus on education also includes teaching respect and dignity, which is key for every child’s well-being. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) also works to make sure Palestinian refugee students reach their full potential, becoming “confident, innovative, questioning, thoughtful, and open-minded, to uphold human values and tolerance, proud of their Palestinian identity and contributing positively to the development of society” through its education system. This shows that education isn’t just about facts, but about learning to think critically and understand human rights.
6.02.2- Using Learning Tools to Share Information
Many special websites offer great ways to learn more and help others understand:
Decolonize Palestine has a collection of materials for activists and anyone who wants to learn about Palestine. This includes “Palestine 101” articles for beginners, a “Myths database” to fight against false information, a detailed reading list, and an FAQ section for common questions.
The Zinn Education Project is a key place for teaching about Palestine-Israel. It offers lessons and stories, including views from civil rights and Black Power activists. The project also provides guides to help teachers against unfair accusations of antisemitism, showing how hard it can be to talk about these topics in schools.
The U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) has a “Palestine 101” course that makes the conflict easier to understand. This course explains Zionism as a project where settlers take land, describes Israel’s military control, sheds light on the Gaza blockade, talks about Palestinian refugees, discusses unfair treatment of Palestinian citizens in Israel, and looks at the issue of political prisoners. Each part of the course comes with extra materials, videos, and links to related groups for more learning.
USCPR also offers guides for “Ethical Travel to Palestine,” helping people visit the region responsibly and avoid “apartheid tourism” that often ignores Palestinian presence and culture.
uncivilized_media is a youtube channel that exposes the zionists.
Ongoing efforts to create school lessons that respect human rights, especially women’s rights, and to help children understand fairness and not discriminating against others, are super important for building a future generation that values fairness, respect, and living together peacefully.
6.02.3- Sharing True Information and Fighting False Stories
Being able to spot and share the truth is a powerful act of standing up. Online platforms have become a major battleground for different stories, often challenging what traditional news outlets say. There’s a known problem of social media companies quietly blocking or limiting pro-Palestine content, sometimes called “shadowbanning”. This intentional control of information makes it harder to change public opinion. By actively looking for and sharing true educational materials, you directly fight against this control, which is essential for influencing leaders and what society understands.
Learning and speaking up go hand in hand. Once you’re well-informed, you’re better able to advocate effectively. And this informed advocacy, in turn, can create a fairer environment where human rights education can grow, leading to deeper changes in society. The goal isn’t just to know things, but to use that knowledge to act and build a more equal future.

6.03- Provide Humanitarian Aid and Direct Support
When people are facing really tough times, giving direct help through trusted organizations can save lives right away. In Gaza, almost everyone desperately needs help, and children are even dying from hunger and sickness. This shows how incredibly urgent it is to provide aid.
6.03.1- Supporting Essential Services: Health, Nutrition, and Child Welfare
The terrible humanitarian conditions mean we need to keep supporting essential services. The IRC’s focus on helping malnourished children, protecting women and children, and providing mental health support shows a complete approach to the crisis. Even with limits on aid delivery, organizations like the IRC continue to reach Palestinians with life-saving healthcare, money, and emergency support.
While humanitarian aid is vital for immediate survival, it’s often severely held back by ongoing conflict, blockades, and limits on getting aid in. From a humanitarian point of view, a ceasefire (a stop to fighting) is seen as the best way to fully protect Palestinian lives, get hostages released, and allow aid to be delivered safely. This shows that while aid is crucial for survival, it must go hand-in-hand with asking for bigger changes, like a ceasefire and lifting restrictions, to make the biggest impact and fix the root causes of the humanitarian crisis, so it doesn’t become an endless cycle of emergencies.
The wide range of humanitarian organizations shows how huge and complex the crisis is. The long list of trusted groups, from big international ones like UNRWA, UNICEF, and Doctors Without Borders to more specialized ones , highlights the many different needs across Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan. These organizations offer all sorts of help, including food, money, education, and healthcare. This variety means you can choose groups whose specific focus—like helping children, providing medical aid, supporting refugees, or mental health—matches what you care about most, making sure your help goes where you feel it can do the most good.
Donating money is easy and flexible, so people with different financial situations can contribute. However, the constant advice to donate to “reputable organizations” and the clear mention of groups being UN agencies or registered non-profits quietly points to how important it is for these groups to be open and responsible. In a complicated global situation, donors need to do their homework to make sure their money is used well, reaches those who need it, and doesn’t accidentally support things they don’t intend to. This means you should research the organizations you support, looking for clear reports and ethical ways of working.
6.04- IV. Economic Pressure: Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS)
The Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement is a strong, peaceful way for individuals to use economic pressure and speak up for Palestinian rights. Like the movement against apartheid in South Africa, BDS asks people to boycott (stop buying from), divest (take money out of), and sanction (pressure governments) to make Israel end its control, land-taking, and unfair treatment of Palestinians. This movement stands for the idea that Palestinians deserve the same rights as everyone else.
6.04.1- Understanding the BDS Movement and Its Ideas
The BDS movement, started in 2005 by over 170 Palestinian community groups, is a worldwide effort for freedom, fairness, and equality. It aims to challenge international support for what it calls Israeli apartheid and taking of land by settlers. The movement’s main goals include ending the control and taking of all Arab lands and tearing down the Wall, recognizing the full equality of Arab-Palestinian citizens in Israel, and respecting the right of Palestinian refugees to return home, as stated in UN Resolution 194. BDS is a welcoming, anti-racist human rights movement that is against all forms of discrimination.
The BDS movement works step-by-step, building strength over time and changing its methods to fit different places and cultures. It smartly targets companies that are clearly and directly involved in alleged violations of Palestinian rights, and where there’s a good chance of success. This smart approach has led to big wins, with companies like G4S, Veolia, Orange, Puma, and Pillsbury reportedly stopping their involvement.
6.04.2- How to Boycott: Consumer and Specific Actions
Boycotts mean stopping your support for Israel’s system, and for Israeli sports, cultural, and academic groups that are involved, as well as all Israeli and international companies that violate Palestinian human rights. While individual actions like not buying Israeli products are a start, the BDS movement stresses putting our combined energy into a few specific boycott campaigns against companies that are deeply involved.
The BDS movement provides a detailed list of consumer boycott targets that are top priority. These are brands whose business with Israel is seen as helping with ongoing alleged genocide, apartheid, or illegal control, which could make the company legally responsible under international law. These include:
- Chevron (including Caltex and Texaco brands): Targeted because it’s the main company taking gas that “apartheid Israel” claims in the East Mediterranean, bringing in billions that strengthen Israel’s “war chest”. You’re encouraged to avoid their gas stations worldwide.
- Intel: Historically the biggest international investor in “apartheid Israel,” with a factory built on land from a Palestinian village that was ethnically cleansed. The #BoycottIntel campaign continues even though they reportedly dropped a big investment.
- DELL: Accused of providing servers and equipment to the Israeli military and setting up research and development in areas that strengthen illegal settlements.
- Siemens (Germany): The main company building the Euro-Asia Interconnector, an electricity cable planned to connect illegal Israeli settlements to Europe. Boycotting Siemens electrical appliances is encouraged.
- Hewlett Packard (HP), including HPE and HP Inc.: Seen as a major helper of Israel’s control, providing technology and support to the Israeli government, military, prisons, and police.
- Microsoft: Accused of being very involved due to ties with the Israeli military and government, providing technology, including AI, that helps with “serious human rights violations”. Avoiding Xbox and gaming, ending company contracts, and taking money out of the company are suggested actions.
- Carrefour: Involved in alleged “war crimes” through a partnership active in illegal Israeli settlements and providing support to Israeli soldiers.
- AXA (France): Owns shares in companies that arm Israel, with weapons linked to attacks on Palestinians.
- Reebok: Signed a sponsorship deal with the Israel Football Association, which includes teams in illegal settlements.
- Disney+: Accused of “making Israel’s system of genocide and apartheid look good” through its Marvel subsidiary and actors acting as “cultural ambassadors”. Canceling subscriptions is suggested.
- SodaStream: Targeted for its role in displacing native Bedouin-Palestinian citizens and a history of treating Palestinian workers unfairly.
- RE/MAX (US): Sells property in illegal Israeli settlements.
- Israeli produce and other products: Avoiding produce from Israel and asking stores to remove them is encouraged, as trade helps Israel’s “apartheid economy,” and products often come from illegal settlements.
Everyday boycotts, actively supported by the BDS movement, include McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Burger King, Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, Domino’s Pizza, and WIX, because of their open support for “apartheid Israel” or donations to the Israeli military.
6.05- Taking Part in Divestment Campaigns
Divestment campaigns ask banks, local councils, religious groups, pension funds, and universities to pull their money out of companies that support Israeli apartheid. These campaigns work best when they team up with labor unions and progressive movements to create strong groups.
Individuals and groups can help by urging institutions to take their money out of companies that provide weapons and military technology to Israel, build things for its military control, or do business in illegal settlements. For example, British universities reportedly invest over £420 million in companies involved in Israeli apartheid, and many student groups are actively working to end this. USCPR offers guides for city council divestment and pressuring companies.
6.06- Pushing for Sanctions
Sanctions are actions taken by countries or international groups like the UN to pressure governments to meet their legal duties and end Israeli apartheid. This includes stopping military and arms trade, ending free trade agreements, and working to suspend Israel’s membership in international groups. There’s growing support for sanctions on Israel. USCPR pushes for sanctions on Israel, noting that international law says countries must stop arming Israel, as advised by the International Court of Justice.
The BDS movement is a smart, peaceful tool for holding people accountable. Its success in changing how companies act, like those that stopped their involvement, shows that combined economic pressure can indeed lead to real change. This approach gives individuals a powerful way to help make big changes by targeting the money and systems that allow the occupation to continue.
Targeted boycotts make a bigger impact and hold companies responsible. By focusing on a few companies that are very involved, the movement gets the most out of its power, making it too expensive for these companies to keep doing what they’re doing. This smart focus ensures that your individual buying choices send strong economic signals that companies can’t ignore, leading to real changes in their business practices.
Divestment campaigns use financial power to create big changes. By pushing large organizations like universities and pension funds to pull their money out of involved companies, these campaigns move money away from unfair systems. This not only creates financial reasons for change but also makes the targeted companies look bad, helping to shift how people think about ethical investments. The combined power of these financial actions can put a lot of pressure on governments and big organizations to change their policies.
6.07- Political Advocacy: Influencing Policy and Decision-Makers
Getting involved in political advocacy is a direct and powerful way for you to influence how your country deals with Palestine. This means talking directly to your elected leaders, joining campaigns, and supporting groups that work for policy change.
6.07.1- Contacting Your Elected Leaders and Policymakers
You can push for political change by writing to your elected leaders, signing petitions, and supporting political campaigns that work for peace and fairness in the region. Groups like the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) offer help and ideas for the Palestine solidarity movement in the U.S., working with local organizers, activists, and advocacy groups to promote a framework based on rights, accountability, and justice, from the U.S. to Palestine.
USCPR provides specific tools for political advocacy, including the “Stop Gaza Genocide Toolkit,” which has resources to help turn public concern into action to stop systems fueled by taxpayer money. They also offer resources like “Not My Tax Dollars,” which shows the large amount of U.S. military money going to Israel (at least $17.9 billion in 2024) and compares it to what that money could do at home, like for housing, groceries, or healthcare. This resource encourages you to contact your members of Congress to demand an end to U.S. military funding to Israel.
The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) also does political advocacy, offering resources, guidance, and training to activists. They lead national education and advocacy campaigns and talk directly with decision-makers. Their efforts include “Action Hour for a Cease-Fire Now” and the “Apartheid-Free Communities” program, which aims to break down Israeli apartheid through ongoing organizing and smart divestment.
6.07.2- Taking Part in Advocacy Campaigns and Protests
Actively joining advocacy campaigns and protests makes your voice louder. USCPR has a “Find a Protest Near You” tool, listing current and upcoming protests, as well as online actions and regular protests by state. If there’s no protest nearby, you’re encouraged to organize your own, using the “Stop Gaza Genocide Action Toolkit” for guidance.
Campaigns like “End U.S. Military Funding to Israel” demand that the U.S. government put money into community care instead of military spending, pushing for funds to go to healthcare, housing, and climate justice. Other campaigns include “Boycott Chevron,” targeting its alleged involvement in Israel’s actions , “Resist Greenwashing,” which aims to fight against environmental talk used to hide alleged land-taking , and “#DroptheADL,” which challenges the Anti-Defamation League’s alleged role in hurting social justice movements.
6.07.3- Supporting Legal and Human Rights Organizations
Supporting groups that work on legal accountability and watching human rights is another important way to help. The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) challenges the idea that the Israeli government can get away with alleged violations of international law, opposes U.S. support that allows these violations, and fights to protect free speech in the U.S. about Palestine. You can support CCR by donating, taking action on specific campaigns, attending events, or volunteering your time.
B’Tselem, the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, works to end the current system to ensure human rights, democracy, freedom, and equality for everyone living between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. Supporting their work, often through donations, helps with human rights monitoring and speaking up. The Palestine Solidarity Campaign also actively campaigns for the rights of Palestinian prisoners, highlighting the widespread arrests of Palestinians and the harsh conditions they face.
Your individual voice plays a big part in shaping foreign policy. The Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF) suggests that groups working together, including interest groups, media, academics, and government officials, can influence policy changes by working together and turning shared beliefs into public policy. This framework shows that consistent efforts by individuals and groups to influence policy can lead to long-term change.
Working together makes political influence stronger. When individuals unite through groups like USCPR or AFSC, their combined efforts create a louder voice that leaders are more likely to listen to. This collective power is clear in the ability to organize widespread protests, launch specific campaigns, and influence public opinion, which then pressures political bodies to rethink current policies.
Staying involved over time is key for policy change. The ACF stresses looking at policy changes over a long period, sometimes a decade or more, suggesting that immediate results aren’t always the norm. Stable alliances and consistent advocacy over time are crucial for making big shifts in policy. This means that your individual actions, even if they seem small, add up over time and can eventually lead to major policy reforms.
6.08- Social Media Activism: Amplifying Voices and Shaping Narratives
Social media platforms have completely changed how we share information and how movements get organized, becoming super important for Palestinians to express themselves politically and get news. For individuals, getting involved in social media activism is a powerful way to make unheard voices louder, challenge common stories, and build global support.
6.08.1- Using Social Media for Advocacy and Awareness
Social media offers a crucial way to challenge mainstream news stories, which in some Western countries have “consistently prioritized Israeli lives over Palestinian ones”. Young activists and concerned citizens use these platforms to share different viewpoints and record events. Good strategies for social media advocacy include:
- Telling Powerful Stories: Sharing compelling stories about those affected by crises, like personal stories of children in need from groups like PCRF, can make statistics feel more real and create empathy.
- Using Hashtags to Reach More People: Relevant hashtags like #HumanitarianAid, #SocialJustice, and #ActNow make your content more visible and connect it with a wider audience, allowing you to join popular conversations and make your message stronger.
- Sharing Verified Information and Facts: Being trustworthy is key. Sharing verified data and statistics from trusted sources, like UN reports on humanitarian needs, makes your arguments stronger and more believable.
- Talking with Your Audience: Responding to comments, asking questions, and encouraging discussions builds a sense of community and encourages more action. Valuing what your audience says leads to stronger support.
- Using Pictures and Videos: Images, videos, infographics, and live streams are more engaging than just text and effectively show how urgent and important humanitarian issues are. Posts with images reportedly get many more shares.
- Organizing Online Campaigns and Fundraisers: Social media platforms have built-in tools for creating and sharing fundraisers, allowing you to highlight campaigns and give clear calls to action to encourage donations.
- Pushing for Policy Change: Beyond just raising awareness, social media can be used to push for policy changes by sharing petitions, contact information for lawmakers, and updates on relevant policies.
6.08.2- Dealing with Censorship and Fighting False Information
Palestinians face big challenges using social media for free expression, with content often used as an excuse to arrest activists. Major platforms have been accused of systematically censoring pro-Palestine content, including “shadowbanning” (quietly limiting visibility). Activists have come up with “hacking strategies” to get around these tactics, like hiding hashtags or using “algo break” captions.
Being reliable, consistent, and knowledgeable is highly valued on social media, as younger generations are careful about being “brainwashed”. The spread of digital media has given power to underrepresented groups, allowing underreported stories and the debunking of hoaxes to gain attention and force their way into mainstream news. This shows that social media is a vital platform for sharing different stories and organizing people. It allows for quick sharing of information, documenting events, and organizing protests, building global solidarity.
Smart content creation and engagement help reach more people. By focusing on compelling stories, verified information, and interactive pictures/videos, you can make the biggest impact and connect with a wider audience. This approach ensures that messages are not only seen but also deeply felt, inspiring action and building a sense of community around the cause.
Dealing with censorship and false information requires flexible strategies. The documented cases of content being suppressed highlight the need for creative and persistent ways to make sure messages reach their intended audience. This constant adaptation in the digital world is crucial for keeping information flowing and challenging efforts to control the story, thereby keeping the momentum of advocacy efforts going.
| Tell Stories | Share powerful stories about people affected to make statistics feel real and build empathy. |
| Use Hashtags Smartly | Use relevant hashtags (like #HumanitarianAid, #SocialJustice, #ActNow) to make your posts more visible and reach more people. |
| Share True Information | Always share reliable facts and numbers from trusted sources (like UN reports) to make your arguments stronger. |
| Talk with Your Audience | Reply to comments, ask questions, and encourage discussions to build a community and encourage action. |
| Work with Influencers/Groups | Partner with popular people online and established humanitarian groups (like PCRF) to reach more people and gain trust. |
| Use Pictures and Videos | Use images, videos, infographics, and live streams to make your content more appealing and show how urgent issues are. |
| Organize Online Campaigns/ Fundraisers | Use social media tools to create and share fundraisers, highlighting campaigns with clear calls to action. |
| Push for Policy Change Online | Share petitions, contact info for lawmakers, and policy updates to get people to take political action. |
| Fight Censorship | Use tricks like “algo break” captions, hiding hashtags, or sharing content creatively to get around quiet blocking. |
| Debunk False Stories | Actively challenge and expose hoaxes and untrue stories spread by the other side. |
6.09- Cultural Support and Exchange: Preserving Identity and Building Bridges
Supporting Palestinian culture and exchanging ideas are super important for keeping Palestinian identity alive, helping different cultures understand each other, and building connections. These efforts offer a unique and deep experience for people from other countries while also empowering local communities and giving them ways to help Palestinian society in positive ways.
6.09.1- Supporting Palestinian Arts and Cultural Initiatives
Palestinian cultural efforts are key to preserving history, culture, and shared memories. Groups like the UPA (United Palestinian Appeal) help with this by supporting literature, art, and music, with a special focus on art education programs that help Palestinian youth imagine a future beyond their current difficulties. The Palestinian Performing Arts Network (PPAN) is a group effort among Palestinian art institutions focusing on dance, music, circus, and theater. PPAN organizes yearly events around November 29th (International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People) and works to build skills to strengthen the arts and culture sector.
The Popular Art Centre (PAC), started in 1987 during the First Intifada (uprising), was created to protect Palestinian identity, be a center for local music and dance groups, and spark cultural awareness. PAC saw itself as a place for artistic resistance, offering traditional dabkeh dance training and music lessons. It also launched Palestine’s first international arts festival since the 1950s to break the cultural isolation caused by the occupation and encourage exchange with artists worldwide. PAC expanded its work to include programs for children and youth, believing art is a vital tool for healing emotional wounds. PAC also supports a fair social economy by helping set up and keep going youth and women-led cooperatives.
6.09.2- Getting Involved in Cultural Exchange and Ethical Travel
Cultural exchange programs give you a chance to truly experience Palestinian life and culture. Go Palestine, for example, offers various volunteer and internship programs in the West Bank. These programs let participants help Palestinians improve their English, learn about important topics like human rights law and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and connect with activists and experts. Volunteers can live with host families, learn Arabic, and experience daily life firsthand, building real understanding between cultures.
Ethical travel to Palestine is crucial, as typical tourism can accidentally support land-taking and cultural theft. It’s important to know the guidelines from groups like the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI). The ability of non-Palestinians to travel is often based on denying Palestinians their freedom of movement and right to return. Recommended ethical tour operators are local and Palestinian-led, such as Alternative Tourism Group (ATG), Grassroots Jerusalem, and Al-Marsad (for the Syrian Golan Heights).
Ethical travel also means challenging companies that are involved in unfair tourism (e.g., urging Google to correctly label Palestinian areas on maps, pressuring Booking.com or TripAdvisor to stop listing properties in illegal settlements). It also means challenging study abroad programs and “Birthright” trips that hide the realities of occupation and deny refugee rights. Supporting cultural and sports boycotts against Israeli institutions used for propaganda is another way to engage ethically.
Culture is a powerful foundation of Palestinian identity and resistance. When there are systematic efforts to erase Palestinian heritage, cultural centers and art initiatives actively preserve and promote Palestinian identity. This preservation isn’t just symbolic; it’s a defiant response to oppression, offering ways for healing, community strength, and passing down shared memories through generations.
Ethical engagement builds mutual understanding and direct support. By joining cultural exchange programs and choosing ethical travel options, you can go beyond simple interactions to build real connections with Palestinians. This direct involvement gives you true insights into their daily lives and struggles, building empathy and leading to more informed and impactful solidarity efforts that directly benefit local communities and artists.
Cultural initiatives empower young people and preserve heritage. Programs that involve Palestinian youth in arts, music, and traditional dance not only give them creative outlets but also instill a sense of pride in their culture. These initiatives give younger generations tools for self-expression and critical thinking, helping them navigate their realities and contribute positively to society, ensuring Palestinian heritage continues despite ongoing challenges.
6.10- Long-Term Engagement and Sustained Solidarity
Making real change in complicated global situations like Palestine needs more than just one-off actions; it requires steady, long-term involvement and support. The history of peaceful movements worldwide shows that consistent pressure and a shared commitment are essential for taking apart unfair systems.
6.10.1- Embracing “Peaceful” Resistance and Direct Action
Peaceful resistance has a long and powerful history of bringing about big political changes worldwide, from the Egyptian Revolution of 1918 to the Salt March in India (1930), and the People Power Revolution in the Philippines (1986). The American Civil Rights Movement’s Freedom Rides are a great example of how peaceful direct action can win strategically, showing unfairness and getting better results than violent clashes. Key lessons from these movements include the importance of sticking to peaceful direct action, thorough training and preparation, bravery when facing violence, and ongoing commitment from participants.
The International Solidarity Movement (ISM) believes that peaceful actions are a powerful tool in fighting oppression, occupation, and apartheid. ISM activists take direct action, such as joining Palestinian-led demonstrations, creatively disrupting activities by Israeli forces, accompanying children to school and farmers to their fields, and staying with families whose homes are threatened. They also focus on documenting events, reporting daily life under occupation and human rights violations to local and international media to provide proof for accountability.
6.10.2- Building Global Networks and Alliances
Working together across countries is crucial in global social justice movements. It helps make unheard voices louder, allows for sharing ideas and strategies across borders, and builds global connections and alliances to challenge unfair systems. This involves finding common goals, setting up ways to communicate (often using digital tools), and building trust and support among different groups. Social media platforms are especially good for sharing information and organizing people in this context.
The BDS movement itself is a lively global movement supported by unions, academic groups, churches, and grassroots movements all over the world. This wide group shows the power of different groups coming together for a shared cause.
6.10.3- Fostering Local Action with Global Impact
While the Palestinian struggle is global, individual actions often start close to home. USCPR supports local campaigns and provides resources for organizing in communities, recognizing that local actions contribute significantly to the bigger movement. This includes organizing local protests, divestment campaigns in city councils and universities, and efforts to pressure companies.
Staying committed is crucial for lasting change. Historical examples of peaceful revolutions show that big political shifts often happen over long periods, sometimes decades. This suggests that individual efforts, consistently applied over time, create a growing pressure that can eventually lead to the dismantling of unfair systems. The ongoing nature of the struggle means we need a long-term view, where every action, no matter how small, builds towards the ultimate goal of freedom and equality.
Building alliances makes the movement stronger. The success of BDS and other advocacy efforts is often because diverse groups, including labor unions, academic associations, and religious organizations, form broad alliances. These alliances combine resources, share strategies, and make collective voices louder, creating a more powerful force for change. This highlights that individual actions become much more powerful when coordinated within a larger, unified movement.
Local actions contribute to global impact. Being able to organize and participate in protests, divestment campaigns, and corporate pressure at the local level gives individuals clear ways to get involved in the global struggle. When these local efforts are repeated across many communities and countries, they create a widespread network of support that pressures national and international decision-makers, showing that global change is often the sum of countless local commitments.
7- Conclusions and Recommendations
Looking at all the ways individuals can support Palestine shows a powerful truth: even though the challenges are huge, there are many different and accessible ways to get involved, and together, these actions have a big impact. From learning more yourself to speaking up globally, every action helps a larger movement for fairness and human rights.
The report highlights that learning isn’t just about gaining knowledge; it’s a necessary step before taking smart action. People who are well-informed are better able to challenge common stories, spot false information, and direct their efforts toward effective change. This basic knowledge empowers individuals to participate meaningfully in complex issues.
Also, direct humanitarian aid, while essential for saving lives right away, faces limits because of ongoing conflict and blockades. This shows why aid efforts must be combined with strong political advocacy to fix the root causes and ensure help that lasts. The ease and variety of donation methods are important, but they mean donors need to do their homework to ensure transparency and accountability.
Economic pressure, especially through the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, stands out as a strong, peaceful tool for holding companies and institutions accountable. Its smart, targeted approach shows that combined consumer and financial choices can force big changes in how companies do business and where money is invested.
Political advocacy, from talking to elected officials to joining local campaigns and supporting legal groups, provides direct ways to influence policy. The historical success of peaceful movements worldwide confirms that steady, combined pressure can indeed lead to long-term policy change.
Social media has become an essential platform for making unheard voices louder and shaping stories, especially in fighting against mainstream biases and censorship. Smart content creation and flexible tactics are crucial for reaching the most people and making the biggest impact in this digital space.
Finally, supporting culture and exchanging ideas are vital for keeping Palestinian identity alive, helping people from different cultures understand each other, and building international connections. These efforts not only empower Palestinian youth and artists but also offer deep opportunities for people worldwide to engage ethically with the rich Palestinian heritage.
Simple Steps You Can Take:
- Learn First: Make it a habit to keep learning about the history and current situation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Use resources like Decolonize Palestine, the Zinn Education Project, and USCPR’s Palestine 101 to get a full understanding.
- Give Humanitarian Aid: Regularly donate to trusted organizations that provide immediate help. Research what they do and pick groups whose focus matches what you care about.
- Use Economic Pressure: Actively join BDS campaigns by avoiding companies that are involved and pushing for institutions to pull their money out of those that support Israeli apartheid. Use guides from the BDS Movement and USCPR for specific targets and strategies.
- Speak Up Politically: Regularly contact your elected leaders, sign petitions, and support campaigns that call for a ceasefire, an end to U.S. military funding to Israel, and following international law. Join local protests and advocacy events.
- Be Active on Social Media: Use social media to share true information, fight false stories, and make Palestinian voices louder through personal stories, relevant hashtags, and pictures/videos. Be aware of and adapt to potential censorship.
- Support Palestinian Culture and Travel Ethically: Buy Palestinian fair trade products to help the local economy. Look for ethical travel opportunities that help you understand the culture and directly benefit Palestinian communities, avoiding “apartheid tourism.”
- Commit for the Long Haul: Understand that change takes time. Join or support groups dedicated to Palestinian rights, take part in peaceful direct action, and help build global networks and connections for lasting impact.
